Hi all. I need to replace my alternator and was looking at this one from Autozone but the reviews made me think twice.

Does anyone know if this would be a good option, or recommend an alternative?

I’m also probably going to replace the voltage regulator but wasn’t sure where to find the coil type (I don’t want solid state).

Thanks guys.

Here’s the regulator with its hood pulled off.

look around for a local rebuild shop and get your alternator rebuilt. Much better than a China rebuild from a parts house and it keeps locals employed.

I went round and round with parts store alternators. Learned about “round back” and “square back”. Very important. Single field or two field. Rebuild your original. That was the answer for me on my 64 Newport.

I've had solid state regulators for these 1961-1969. They seem to charge high and then just go full charge 17volts. Never again.

I bought an old car, got receipts, the guy went through 3 solid state regs, and the one on the car was 17 volts already.
