440 swap or build the 383?

God I love the 29 roof

440 swap or build the 383?

There's no replacement for displacement. 440 is going to make more torque. 383 is going to rev higher. Either one can be fun. Build up the 383. The gear is going to be the biggest kick. 2.76 is miserable. 3.23 is better. 3.55 is good. 3.91 is fun. 4.10 is a party.

Has anyone used an aftermarket sure-grip?

Overall thoughts on these suregrips? I've got a 3.55 I want to set up, and the price is certainly intriguing.

    best carburetor

The only Holleys I've had good luck with were brand new out of the box. Easy to tune. Really decent for performance/race cars. Cruising in a C body? Give me a Carter or Edelbrock. Sounds like yours needs a rebuild and/or some tweaks and it'll serve you well.

I have a '71 Imperial with an engine leaking oil...

No the freeze plugs is something I wouldn't think twice about changing as well, its something I didn't even think about, because it's a no brainer to me. Glad you mentioned it though, because I didn't think the OP would need to hear it with his plan of action. But its good to cover everything...

I have a '71 Imperial with an engine leaking oil...

If you are going to be in there and you do want to foolishly reuse the old oil pump. At least disassemble/inspect the rotor/clean it. I wouldnt bother using it, but thats just me. This type of car. Lol okay! Sure.

I have a '71 Imperial with an engine leaking oil...

Yep. Theres a really trick oil pan gasket/windage tray summit sells now too. WAY better than a cork gasket. This is the best way to proceed. Id throw a new oil pump on and clean the pick up thoroughly as well. Melling High volume. M63HV I believe is the part#. Someone's gonna chime in and say...

I have a '71 Imperial with an engine leaking oil...

I'd do everything mentioned in the post above, however, I'd do the valve seals as well. Surely they are dry and ready to fall apart and clog the oil pickup. Don't let it snowball.

    What octane fuel?

I run 87 in my old cars. Alot of folks swear you gotta use 93. Pretty sure they are wasting money. But that's their preference and their money so it's not my problem. If you don't have high compression where you will ping with lower octane fuel its gonna be just fine. If you can find ethanol...

I hate rigged contests/elections. Maybe I'll put line lock on one of my cars to take a little strain off of everything.

I've gotta ask John...is there added benefit to this? Ease of breaking them loose? Not tearing up the shoes and drums in addition to more smoke and wheel speed? Less stress on the trans/drivetrain?

Reverse float is what I've heard it called if I am understanding correctly. You start in reverse, get rolling backwards, slip it into neutral and rev it up high while still moving backwards. Then slam drive. The patch it leaves look like Js. I dont recommend this.

Also adjust timing until it pings, then back it off a touch. If you are retarded (like me) you will have weak low end power and it'll all be top end.

Forget you set the parking brake and drive 3 miles like I did. That'll loosen them up quite a bit  Don't mash the brakes as hard as you are. Go outside now and try to be easier on the brake pedal and harder on the gas pedal.:steering:
