Selling a great restoration project.
Soon to be a true collectible--1981 Chrysler Imperial with the desirable Mark Cross interior package. Paint is suffering from a bath in the Tucson sun but body is very straight.
Interior is extremely nice for the year.
Original window sticker and books are in the glove box.
Service manuals are in the trunk with the original wheel covers.
15x8 Ridler wheels make it look like a hot rod!
Runs well on alternate fuel source. Rare factory fuel injection system needs some service.

Asking a reasonable $2500 OBO. Come look at this barn find before it ends up on Barn Finds for twice the price!!

Looks like it needs some TLC. ONE thing about those EFI units, the unusual looking band clamp around the edge of the air cleaner housing is important and the top of the air cleaner MUST be correctly positioned on its base for the EFI to work right. Reason? The air flow sensor is in the air cleaner snorkel. For correct metering, the ONLY air going into the air cleaner MUST enter through the snorkel. Many were confounded that with the engine running, if the air cleaner top was removed, the engine died . . . as the air flow signal was lost.

At Mopar Nats in the late 1980s, a guy turned up with a very nice (similar year) Imperial that he'd bought from the back of the Chrysler dealer's used car lot. That "wholesaler" area many have. He knew the car had been local to him since new. Grandmother bought it new, grand-daughter considered it "a car", and traded it in when the performance got rough, so the mechanic had seen it off and on for many years, always wanting to buy it.

When he went back to look at it, sitting near the back fence, the first thing he noticed was that the air cleaner band clamp was askew, so he felt he knew what the issue with the running was. He did start it and do other check-outs before he bought it. Got it home, repositioned the top of the air cleaner and band clamp. Ran smooth, as designed! He was happy he had a car he'd dreamed about, the specific one. It was white with the red leather interior and looked great with a normal clean and shine.

Chrysler did have a retro-fit kit to install the similar Cordoba ThermoQuad fuel system. Gas tank to the front! Plus changing the "Fuel Injection" nameplates to something else.

Chrysler Aerospace designed that system in an expeditious manner, from what I have read. It was designed to be a "drop-in replacement" of sorts for the normal carb system, so all of the fuel system controls are, pretty much, mounted on the air cleaner base housing. Interestingly, TWO "spray bars", one "primary" and one "secondary". On what appears to be a normal 318 2bbl intake manifold. It was, still, a "basic system" that was advanced for back then and wildly obsolete in the current time frame.

As it sits, the most expensive part of the car is the aftermarket wheels! But, with some TLC from a motivated person, it appears it can be returned to its original style and elegance reasonably easy.
