69 Polara, in the eng compartment the PO cut the end of the vac line and plugged it, and put a manual switch where the heater temp control used to go. How do I reconnect the cable so that it's factory correct and I can change the temp from the dash controls? The cable is still there, but it's just hanging there right now

Does the car have air conditioning?

This is a pic from a car I saw at the show, mine has the same setup except the vac line is not attached, looks like it has some kind of hook sticking out that pulls the temp lever?

Yes, it’s a cable. I believe that iit is controlled by an actuator under the dash. The factory service manual describes..

The 69 uses a vacuum control valve.

So that switch thingy in my pic was taken from another car or something? What is in that pic that I posted? I thought mine was Jerry-rigged until I saw the same exact thing on another car at the show (the pic I posted)

Probably explains why mine is just a plain vac line with no cable thing inside it

Can I get one of those heater valves anywhere?

1970 also had the vac-actuated water valve. There are metal versions of same, in the replacement parts realm of things. Many people disliked the plastic-based OEM valves as they eventually cracked and leaked, which is why the aftermarket brands made metal ones. Knowing this, I went to an aftermarket water valve on my '70 Monaco.

The 1972 C-bodies transitioned to the cable-operated water valve as pictured. Obviously, the PO had to change the heat lever control as the '70 control had a variable-bleed vac control, or did the transition happen when the Dodge instrument panels changed in 1971?

I suspect that if you look for a metal water valve that is correct for your car, that might be the most cost-effective way to do things. AFTER you find out what else was changed to use the cable.

Mine doesn't actually have a cable which is what confused me. It's the metal lever like the one in the pic but just a plain vac line just hanging there with a screw plugged into the end

So I should dump the lever and connect a water valve in its place ?

The car in the pic I posted was at the show, it was an early 70s Chrysler 300

Perhaps you need to download the Chrysler factory service manual for your car and see what it is supposed to have. THEN you will know what you are dealing with. Easier to look at it on a computer screen than a phone screen, I suspect.

wwwmymopar.com has the service manuals, the Chrysler MasterTech videos, all at one place.

Happy Holidays!
