Hey Guys
I searched the threads here but didn't find my specific question - if I missed it just redirect me please

My goal: I am deleting the A/C from my 65 Monaco - it may go back in at a later time or I may sell the parts if there is interest - haven't decided.

Current status: All things under the hood have been removed and NON A/C brackets installed , etc

Issue: I am now trying to figure out how to remove all parts under dash properly (and keep in good condition as per above) At the moment when I start the car the vent under dash opens and starts to blow air - the dash buttons do not seem to do anything

Can someone verify (and/or provide the schematic) for the proper way to disconnect and remove all parts and electrical connections under dash?

thanks

That's gonna be a tricky one if you don't swap out the AC heater box and control switch for the non AC units. You'd have to trace out the vacuum lines (I think they're shown in the FSM) to disconnect and plug the ones you don't want if you want to simulate non AC operation. Otherwise, just use the AC modes on the switch, or not, and all you really have to do is disconnect the evaporator which is already done. The FSM has the procedure to troubleshoot the heater box/vent ops, but I don't have mine in the house right now and it's too danged cold to go look it up.

To start with though, use a mirror to look up behind the switch and make sure that the vacuum lines are hooked to the switch and make sure your vacuum connection to the intake is good, if they aren't right it won't change modes at all.

thanks for the bite! i can guarantee the vacuum hoses arent hooked up properly under dash - but I also ONLY have a brake boost vacuum line going to the intake manifold - I guess that answers the control issue! thank you!

Are you saying it will be tricky to disassemble assuming I want to split and retain the heater? Not trying to do that - want to delete it all..

Then I don't understand your need to figure out all the controls and lines and stuff.

Commando1 - sorry to not be clear.
just for my own edification on the controls and lines - which I now understand a bit more thanks to you guys!

As for dismantling the equipment - just looking for guidance on proper way to disassemble all the under dash components in a way so I can either sell intact or reinstall at a future date.

Its a SoCal car and (for now anyway) don't so much need all the creature comforts - some of you would probably question why I got a Monaco in the first place...I do like the electric driver seat and power windows :)

thank you guys! loving being on the forum.

Would anyone happen to have the FSM pages or an idiot guide explanation to dismantling??

A FSM takes you through it bolt by bolt.

I tore my car apart without turning a page (but I did have one the day I got my car).
Some people just refuse to buy the book? They want it for free, download it, have someone tell them, or afraid to just dive in and figure it out.

It becomes a broken record trying to let people know they can find it in the book or like I said just dive in and learn.

IF you buy a car, you buy the FSM and Parts Book. Period. End of story. Ends all the replies in forums: It's in the FSM.
They want to throw on wheels, tires, dual exhausts, Edelbrocks, headers....
not fifty bucks for a FSM...

If money is super tight and you need a favor, no problem!. I'll scan pages and post them gladly to help a bruthuh or sistuh out. But I invested a lot of money in manuals and I'm not really keen on subsidizing someone's Rev-n- Nator. :D

They've got to find money for that worthless contraption from somewhere...... I'am talking about the Rev n nator. The FSM is indispensable in the proper repair, and service of your vehicles.

you got it - thank you MrMopar! that helps confirm what Im looking at and trying to get done.

So it looks like literally 3 bolts on the firewall and a bracing bracket that ties to the dash and it should all pull out as a single assembly once I get the ducting and vacuum lines out of the way?

much appreciated - feel a bit foolish and probably would have come to this by myself, but figured Id ask first for a change before I broke something that wasn't replaceable.

I do personally subscribe to your opinion Commando1 on buying a car AND buying the manual also.

Ive not proven myself worthy here yet to be asking these favors so point taken on asking for help from the manual guys - not trying to avoid paying my dues - was just asking for some friendly advice

thanks again
Sean

Okay, there's really not much to pulling the whole unit out. There's a few screws/bolts on the right side under the glove box attaching the htr box to the outside air vent, then just a few nuts on the front of the firewall to take off assuming the heater hoses and AC lines are off. There's the vacuum line connector that can be removed at the switch, the temp control cable going to the water valve, and the wiring that IIRC can also just be unplugged at the switch and then the whole box can come out. I said CAN, not will come easily. The console will need to be removed, but with that out the entire box will come out the bottom although some of the hoses/wiring may be intertwined in the bracing under there. Oh yeah, forgot the ducting to the vents in the center and ends of the dash/defroster ducts, but that should have been obvious. The hardest part will be to fab decent patches for the holes in the firewall. And you'll need a right side vent unit for the right kick panel where the fresh air duct came in.

Are you sure you won't need defrost and the like at any time?

Mike

I appreciate the detail Polara_500. thank you

I planned to use some flat aluminum stock I have to trace the firewall holes and make block offs

Defrost is about the only relevant thing that is needed in the harsh weather of San Diego that I will miss and probably be the reason I end up searching for a NON ac box sooner than later - Ive had all kinds of cars without this luxury.....

None of it worked properly (or at all) when I bought the car and I work better installing equipment from square one rather than trouble shoot an issue that I don't fully understand
