Has anyone here seen or used this type of welder? Any opinions? Forney is the brand name, it's an A/ C welder

That appears to be a stick welder and isn't really for sheet metal although I think you can use it to power a tig set-up??? Don't quote me on that but if your a novice looking to do sheet metal work you want a good quality mig welder.

Forney makes all kinds of welding supplies, that is one where you have to know what you are doing, I'm out, moving the leads around in different holes to adjust amps, polarity, different thicknesses, rod sizes. A decent mig will make anyone feel like a expert welder. However for the right price that would be in my garage.

Looks like it does a couple different things like Brazing? Battery charging, cuts down voltage to run grinder or drill. Copyright is 1963 for chart on top. Very cool.

If you are half as good a welder as that machine is, you've got some talent.

As has been said, not for lightweight jobs but would be good for any home shop steel fabrication projects like trailers, steel benches or tables etc.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I found this welder in the corner of my dads garage, all covered up. I remember helping him make a bunch of work stands for a sharpening buisness he was starting when I was about 10 yrs old. I didn't know that he still had it. I don't weld but he used to, he was a millwright for 40+ yrs. I will have to see if it still works, it should as he has all kinds of newer welding supplies stacked around it, new leads, helmet, gloves etc.

That thing looks like if you fired it up to maximum, the streetlights would dim. Very cool and interesting.

you would think so but from some websites I visited this thing could weld all day with a double 30 amp fuse, no duty cycle like some of today's welders

Pretty cool old machine! Go on WeldingWeb and you will get all kinds of good advice! Take note of the rods(6013 & 7014) that work well with this machine as found in the link posted by Stan.
