Just got this from my friend whom my old company asked to turn off the lights.
"They" (whom I broke my *** for because they were my bread and butter all my life) finally gave us the boot and brought in the scabs.
What's next. Walmart employee food drive? Oh wait.........

$10.20 an hour to aim 80,000 pounds down the road? Think about the next time you see that "Frieghtliner" emblem in you rear view mirror.
 
$10.20/hr ain't much. Makes one wonder about the skill/experience of those who will apply? Yikes! Maybe scared would be more appropriate!:sFun_doh2:

Good for the company making a decision that will hopefully keep them economically viable for the foreseeable future. While it may suck some trucker lose their jobs, at the the rest of the folks employed there still have their jobs. For now. I guess if they weren't over paying for transport they wouldn't have had to make the decision they did.

You're probably right Stan. Union / non union people have no more common ground than Republican / Democratic people. Disscusions in a public forum turn into hard feelings and never sway's anyone's opinions. I got your back on this one though.
 
Wasn't arguing adout right, wrong, or whatever. I simply posted that today I was extremely sad (depressed) because of WHAT happened. I dont give a flying **** about anybody's philosophy about WHY it happened. Do I give a **** most of you were born too late and are ******? Hell, no. Cuz that's the way it is.

Ok. I'm sorry you're having a sad day, seriously. However, I was merely pointing out it could have been a bad day for many more people than what drove trucks.

Before you know it, it will be work visas drive those big rigs. Reverse negotiations, Juan will work for 6 dollars, what will you work for, well my family needs food, so I will work for 5 dollars. Habib said he would work for 4 dollars, you willing to work for 3 dollars, and so on.

Now to be PERFECTLY clear my upcoming words in this post have nothing to do with Union or non Union circumstances. Anyway my son is a diesel mechanic here in Phoenix. His company is having such a hard time finding qualified Technicians that they have raised the starting wage to close to $30 an hour. Obviously they don't want to pay this high of a wage but if they want people with the skill to do the job what choice do they have? In the case of Stan's old company paying truck drivers $10.20 an hour what kind of experience and skill level can they expect? Driving a truck is hard work that requires a very responsible employee. An unsafe driver can be just as detrimental to a companies profit margin due to lawsuits and botched deliveries as a high payroll is. Pay wise $10.20 an hour is barley a step up from flipping burgers at McDonalds. Personally I don't want that guy that put onions on my burger last week when I said "no onion" hauling 80,000 lbs in a rig that the mechanic who adjusted the brakes is only making $11.20 an hour.
