I have so many contacts that I get calls, e-mails & text monthly of old cars people have. Some in barns. Some in fields. 6 weeks ago I bought a Matador because a friend told me about it. Just a few days ago out of the blue I get contacted by a guy in Arizona who tracked me down from FCBO adds & craigslist adds looking for info on a Dodge Colt drag car he use to own. He sent me a CD of it racing at Piedmont Dragway in NC in 1986. And today I get messaged from a guy here in NC that has a old Plymouth race car that was raced at Lions drag strip in California. He wants to sell it & sent me a bunch of pics. It’s the real deal. Well built car, period correct on the way it was built. I plan to go look at it soon. Here’s a tease. I’ve said it before. The cars are out there. Tucked away in barns or carports. I already have FURYIOUS an old race car I saved. The red 64 Barracuda tube chassis car & the 73 Charger street/strip car. I’ll keep you posted as things develop on this latest one

Boyyy,, that looks like a real trip to run down a drag strip...... ....
Gotta love those front brakes.. And it probably has 10" rears......

I ran my Charger at Lions a few times...
The last week was jammed... The whole area surrounding the track
was filled with cars... Quite the event but sadly,, the end for that track..

Just one 10 inch drum on the right rear used only to stage the car. The drum has been Swiss cheesed. And it had a parachute to stop it. All period correct stuff. Single pot master

That was pretty common seen many built this way. Remember back then they had chase trucks to pick the cars up. Many didn’t run radiators either. Doesn’t look like this car did.

Bob's in the south!
Southern style match racing was cheaters paradise. Percentage of nitro in the tank and light, light, light. Worry about after the finish line when you get that far.
There is a section in the "We are the Ramchargers" book. Talks about some of the craziness in around '65 with alcohol/benzine/nitro cocktails, all while gutting the cars more and more for weight savings. Of course a group of engineers were questioning this madness.

Maybe that's it... I don't know.

All I know is seeing the tech guys in the 70's where I raced going over cars pretty well and I know that wouldn't fly. Gotta be going fast for a chute to work...

Had a good friend die on the top end when something went sideways in his rear engine dragster.

Tech is easier now than thirty years ago. Take that however you see fit. It can be argued either way. If you make it such a ***** to pass tech entrants will disappear. Too easy you have a bunch of track oilers making long boring wait times. If someone dies well that puts a damper on the whole night. Fine line between safety and good racing. I was not there in the mid sxties, but I'm going to guess that the track operators then walked pretty far from the safety line from what I have read, to put on a show.
This is also coming out of the NHRA fuel ban, so national sanctioned tracks is not where I'm talking about.

That’s true. Was some crazy outlaw stuff in the south back then and today. But this car came out of southern Cali
 
more pics of that 66 or 67 plymouth b body please . i bought a 65 bel rag in mich i've got to go get . why not this beast too , lol . well bob ? there is a couple old decals in the rear window of my 63 .
