I found some bumpers for my 72 Polara, but they are in Iowa and I'm in Tennessee. The guy is willing to pull the parts and ship them to me, but neither of us has ever shipped anything so large and heavy. What have you done in this situation?

Didn't Bob (1978NYB) have some heavy bumpers shipped across the country?

I used this vendor. Ask for Economy Ground shipping rates. I shipped 2 bumpers for my 1978 New Yorker and a radiator from El Paso, Texas to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland for $441. The crate weighed 575 lbs and 8'x4'x4'. Took 3 days to deliver. I was very satisfied!

My bumpers were too heavy and big to ship Greyhound.

Grayhound works best, safest, quickest...... I usually wrap things like bumpers with shrinkwrap....... It's cheap at HD or Lowes

You're not going to be able to ship a Formal bumper with bubble wrap! LOL!!!

Those aren't that oversized that they won't ship . The bumper from Wills car is bigger than the one on your 78.

I don't know about that.... It takes 2 people just to pick up a formal bumper much less walking more than a few feet with it. The front bumper on a Formal NY'er is even more of a struggle with the shape and awkwardness and weighs even more. The crate (less than 100 lbs) with 2 Formal bumpers and a 15 lb radiator weighed 575 lbs.

Yeah, you said that.. .ditch the rate, ship everything separately. I can pick that bumper up myself.. .. and I said bigger as in just as long but not as tall.

I was told that Fastenal does some shipping and their rates are pretty good. The idea is they are running their trucks all over the place anyway and they ship according to what space is available.

I've never done it, but it would be worth looking into. I'd crate the bumper if I used them though.

If it is ''just as long but not as tall'' how is it bigger?
