Vinegar will almost certainly devour it. It works great on steel or iron. It dissolves pot metal and aluminum.

Sure sounds like an exhaust leak to me. You might get lucky just snugging up all the bolts. But, if I were a betting man. I'd look for your leak where the pipe meets the manifold.

Somebody used to produce a setup that required you remove the deck lid on a sedan and a camper fit on your car similar to that.

dishwasher, car washer, lawnmower, driveway shoveler....name it. Kids used to be the ones to do those things.
