The FSM gives a Mopar part number for a mineral oil based fluid. I went to the local auto parts store and picked up a few quarts of power steering fluid- used one quart to flush some of the old stuff out of the steering box. Pump is working great now.

Thanks…I was guessing that a little roughness might work in my favor as far as getting more friction.
What do you use in your power steering pump? I have been told not to use ATF, but have no idea if that is true. The pump is going back I. Today and I still don’t know what to use….!

Hi everyone. I’ve been very busy with work and the Newport as well. I ran into a lot of snags, but have worked most of them out. I’ll post a new, longer update with pics soon.
I’m going to be rebuilding the original power steering pump today - what are you guys using for fluid in the power...
Looks like I need to take a look at the associated wiring and see what coil is installed- this is essentially an HEI system, then? Not familiar (yet) with the Chrysler ignition systems....
Thanks. I'll start digging for a diagram that shows the horn wire. Yeah, a 16 lb radiator cap could blow my heater core or sone else, and I don't need that problem right now....

I’m trying to identify the distributor- it looks to have a magnetic trigger, so not from 1961. I’d like to buy a new cap, but haven’t a clue which Chrysler model and year to use for distributor replacement parts…...
The car has no sway bar brackets. I have no doubt that the sway bar will improve the driving experience, but I’m getting a little heat about turning the car into a “my project”…..so I need to get the car back on the road for at least a little while, even if it means more work for me in he long...

Regarding the spindle adapters, I agree that there is cause for concern- I have used this design before in other kits- sometimes they performed flawlessly and sometimes they didnt…..the last...
I spoke with Roger at AAJ brakes today- they looked at the pics and confirmed that it was their conversion. The 11” Rotors are 1976 Dodge Dart. Roger was great to deal with, and was extremely helpful.
I had thought the disc kit might be from Scarebird..I appreciate the tip on AAJ- that gives me two kits to look at before I have to pull the bearing numbers and start digging into application lists- thank you.
