Seller's description

79K Montana hardtop coupe, original owners manual, keys, build sheet and dealer brochure. Rust free body. 383 V8 has been pulled, a friend has 440’s for $1000.Trans shifts perfect, 3.23 gears, tight front end, tires w/ almost no miles, great brakes/cooling/charging. Perfect dash, gauges, headliner and door panels. Beautiful upholstery w/ rare bucket seats, only wear is on the drivers back. Carpet has one tear. Lights, gauges, wipers, horn, AutoTemp all work. AC pigtail was disconnected at compressor by previous owner, untested by me. One quality repaint shows well, perfect grill and front bumper, rear bumper and pan slightly dented, minor flaws mostly on front fenders. Solid trunk, factory jack. Slight mouse smell in carpet goes away after driving, steam cleaning might solve it, new sets are only $200. Drop in a motor and have a vintage cruiser, or demo derby and make your money back selling a car’s worth of parts. A lot of Mopar for the money.

Damn it Eric! Finds a gem of a Chrysler and yanks its heart out, but a buddy has a 440... Fer crying out loud! Why didn't you just buy your buddy's 440 and sell a running and driving car? And yes, suggest that it be used in a demo derby, you just helped get it one step closer to that. I hope someone saves this beauty, the mouse smell goes away when driving...

That car is absolutely beautiful! How would you even mention using her for the derby or even a part out? I can't swing it right now or I'd definitely put another heart in her and ride as is. Good luck with your sale, but I hope she goes to someone worthy. Eric.......

There is a video of this highly-optioned Newport driving, so the engine was fine. The build sheet appears in the photos: low-res pic, but it may have been an N-code. :mob:

This next set of pics really hurts, and I see the HP manifold:

Good morning everyone ,
I don't usually say much when I see things like this going on , but I have to now .
Somebody scoop this up quick before it gets completely ruined .
If I was closer , I would . Shipping would be costly .
I have no use for people who would tear up a beautiful car like that and in my opinion , should be ashamed .
That is all .

That is too bad. I hope it wasn't a hack & cut to pull the engine and saved all the parts.
It doesn't look like that to me. Intact mounts, AC compressor looks to be there. Worthy of note is an intact washer bottle.

If I was looking for a car, I'd jump on this. Nice body and simple to drop another engine in. A 400 with a stroker kit comes to mind... While it's too bad they pulled the engine, I don't understand some of the comments. It's not destroyed... It's all there. If you have the engine ready to go, a weekend of work, if that will have you up and running.

I agree that one could drop another engine into the car at fairly low cost.

My issue here is that, before the heart was removed, this was a really nice example of a very rare N-code Newport with a lot of documentation. It has a seldom seen engine, no vinyl top, a great color, and a desirable interior. The only downside, from my perspective, was the AutoTemp1 A/C -- but it is said to have been working before the surgery...

Bottom line, if the engine is still there, it might yet be reunited. Someone looking for a Newport should inquire.

I do not understand why pulling a 383 when there are dozen of 440 available.
It's really simple.

The N code 383 is the same engine used in the B-bodies. Someone has a '71 Road Runner or Charger with a bad 383. Very likely, they bought this car for a song, probably from an estate or something like that. It smells like mice, so it's probably been sitting... and it would not surprise me if a bunch of C-body guys turned up their nose because of the mouse smell (pun intended LOL)

So, let's say they get the car for $3K or less. The 383 comes out. Since it's low miles and running, the engine gets cleaned and painted and put in the B-body. No rebuild, maybe some gaskets. Now, if they can sell the Chrysler, they probably come out ahead. Perfect sense.... Even if they scrapped the Newport, which will probably happen, they are still money ahead.

Not everyone is in it for the love of the cars....

CE23N0C270563 is a stunning car.
N code indeed.
Can yal point out what is wrong with the overall car, with exception of the missing motor?

What stands out?

Put a 383 or 440 in it, replace the rear bumper and give the carpets a good clean, then enjoy :steering:

Although you're likely right, it doesn't make it any less tragic. The thought of someone molesting a car this nice just to put in a non-numbers-matching engine in a muscle car makes my stomach hurt. Seeing the guy care so little so as to actually mention using this car for a demo derby tells us all we need to know about the seller. People like him are the car equivalent to dog fight organizers or puppy mill operators.

It's just a car.
