Adding drain plug to gas tank

Or one of these would be a good idea, it's designed for this type of usage. (requires a female cap) JIC is a good-sealing design, and easier to use than the NPTF. No tapered threads to wonder how much tighter you need to make it for it to stop weeping. With JIC, when the tapered seats bottom...

Thanks for the schooling @Big_John and @73Coupe! And thank you 73Coupe for explaining your red X. My prior comment wasn't really complete to what I was thinking. I am aware that things can be measured to such precision, so perhaps I was focused due to some prior questions/comments in this...

Adding drain plug to gas tank

If you are wanting to drain a fuel tank on a recurring basis, why not just hook an electric pump onto the fuel pickup? You won't get it completely empty that way, of course, but a little stale fuel at the end of the season will not matter when you fill up in spring. That drain plug is a great...

    resized rods. face has dings

Although I'm not an engine machinist, or a high-precision machinist of anything, I would be skeptical of a set of measurements where each measurement of a set is the same to 4 decimal places. That means each measurement was within the same rounding direction in the 5th decimal. A spec of dust...

How Much Octane Is Enough For Good Engine Performance?

Also - what psi do your cylinders have during a compression test? I have a near-stock, small-cam '69 440 with all cylinders between 165 and 175 psi at a recent cold compression check. (and 'cold' gives the worst psi readings) It runs fine on 87 and it's quite spunky, too.

How Much Octane Is Enough For Good Engine Performance?

I have a '74 440 from a motorhome, the pistons are .150" down in the hole. With my compression calculator (which I've spot-checked vs one from a racecar website) it's 7.9:1. Mid-70s engines are commonly rated at ~8.2:1, but folks that have inspected & measured actual engines find that number to...

Exactly What Wheels & Tires Fit C Bodies?

Close - but hte silver rim is a Magnum GT, it's basically a 15x7 version of hte Super Coupe rim. Or a copcar rims without the cap nubs. I think clearance at the leafsprings would be OK, because the 235-70 BFG in the first picture actually prevents the fenderskirt from fitting on the RR of this...

    Welcome, RWCearley

Well, when you're getting prepared for removing the tires, hit me up and we'll see if my polisher is usable? But those might clean up nicely with just some Mothers alum wheel polish.

Exactly What Wheels & Tires Fit C Bodies?

Our fenderskirts typically have the latch at the rear portion, and are pulled upward slightly to release, and then down to disengage. When you are moving forward, the rear portion of the tire is moving UPWARD. On the skirts I'm familiar with, the latch is the furthest-inward part of the skirt...

Exactly What Wheels & Tires Fit C Bodies?

I test-fitted such a wheel back in May, I had planned on posting my findings at that time. Today is hte day, I guess. I was interested in the BS only, and did not check for suspension/brake hose clearance. (I suspect, at 17" dia, the wheel would clear everything. YMMV on tire size, though)...

Great stance on that CMX. Yes, those wheels would not look that proper without some adjustments of some sort. Is there a link to pics of what is under the skin on that car? I put a similar chin spoiler on mine back in the mid-90s (an 80 'Doba with a Mirada nosecone), I had forgotten all about...

    Welcome, RWCearley

Got a plan for polishing those wheels? I've been intending to repair my homemade wheel-spinning contraption, but my current idea likely won't handle the inertia of a wheel + the tire. But if you are planning on new tires...

Found Rear Seat Belt Bracket 1970 Chrysler 300 Convertible

You replaced it with something better, yes? Car audio stuff has gotten so inexpensive in the past 10 years that 'better' doesn't cost much more. The difficulty lies in determining what products are good - there are too many choices and reviews are too subjective. :(

When it gets out of control, it absolutely does. 'Stuff' might prevent you from making some good choices. Sometimes those choices are related to how to dig out of a hole that is filled with stuff.
