I drained and refilled the transfer case today. It was a little over 1/4” low but pretty dirty. Put ATF+4 in and wiped down the case as good as I could. I’ll be pulling it and replacing seals and gaskets eventually. I removed the skid plate to access the transfer case and will clean it up...

Since I’ll be taking valve cover(s) off any recommendations on gaskets / brand? Has anything like the excellent Mopar trans pans been developed?

Good to hear. Well sounds better than digging into lifters I think. There is an odd sound that doesn’t sound like lifters around the front of the passenger head, that’s why I paused when moving around towards the pass side. It sounds like a steady tone like hum or tuning fork or something...

I’ll do that. Don’t want to drive it with the water pump like it is but could put it in and run it up to operating temp and see what happens. If the cam isn’t already hurt I’m nervous about it getting hurt. How much running could cause cam wear or is that unlikely as far as we know?

I’ll try to upload a video of what it sounds like to see if that helps identify anything.
