    Original cam part # for a 72 400

Does anyone know the original camshaft part number for a 1972 400 engine? Or, suggest a good OE grind camshaft? I am thinking about using a new old stock camshaft in my "factory fresh" engine build to cut down on the chance of wipeout from Chinese metal. Plus I liked the very smooth idle I had...

Looking for advice on valves, lifters etc.

1972 Chrysler Newport with 400 engine. Completely factory original with 80,000 miles on it. I had a moment of teenage dumbassery when I dropped a screw into the exhaust port for the choke and couldn't find it. A week or two later it started knocking. I've started disassembling the engine, and...

    Suggestions on coughing/stalling

1972 Newport. Yesterday, I took a trip to the hardware store. Ran very smooth, except on the way back. Over the course of about 6 miles, it started coughing more and more. It almost acted like vapor lock, when I started it this morning, it was still having trouble so I don't believe that is it...

    Tick/clatter at idle

1972 Newport, 74,000 miles. There is a kind of low clatter sound that concerns me. Im almost 100 percent sure it is oil related. Car always has fresh oil. Sound coming from up top somewhere drivers side closer to firewall. It goes away with any rev at all. The sound is strongest when braking...

    Stumbling after rough acceleration.

My 1972 Newport 400 ci. I just had new axel bearings installed, and manually adjusted the brakes. Just to be sure that they were right, I drove to an alley, and backed up hard, and then hit the brakes to adjust them. It already had an exhaust leak, maybe it's related? But the second time I did...

    How to remove rear axle?

My 72 Newport needs new wheel bearings, and I took the wheel, and drum off, and undid the four bolts, but I have been beating a slide hammer all morning and the damn thing won't come out. Am I missing something? 8 3/4 differential. I read the FSM too.

    What is this gasket called?

Its the gasket between the engine block, and the part that the filter screws into. My engine is starting to drip oil from all directions. Best picture I could do, its in an odd spot.

    Carburetor question

I just did a rebuild on my carburetor with the help of my grandpa, new float, and needle and seat too. Even after a rebuild, if it sits overnight, I have to pump about 4-6 times before gas gets to it. If I try to start without pumping, it will almost start, until it seems to use up whatever gas...

Someone do me a huge favor.

Someone with a 72 400CI please measure the oil dipstick for me as follows: From where handle ends to the top of full line, and from where the handle ends to the add line. Also how long the tube it sits in is. I was told my Newport has the wrong one, and I wanted to check, thanks!

What do these Carb hoses do?

Pointed out in this picture, on my 72 Newport there is a hose missing on the air cleaner. On the bottom of it, there are two hoses that are cut off, one of them goes into the back of the carb (plugged off) and one goes to the red circle in the picture. They connect at a part that sticks up next...

    Running on 7 cylinders

I have a 72 Newport. My grandfather came and looked at it today and told me that it sounded like it was running on 7 cylinders. How do I tell if I really am? Ill try posting a video tomorrow. He could be wrong too.
