Anyone try engine PRIMER before investing in paint?

I've never used primer and it's always worked out good. Would be good to clean prime and paint all at once. The primer will collect all those same problems as bare metal. Put the engine and parts in plastic bags will keep it all off there.

Fuel pump not pumping fuel through line?

It's pumping air so it's working. Take your supply hose out of the can and hold it up and put some gas in the hose so it will get the pump wet. Now crank the engine with the line held up, sometimes that helps them start working.

Anyone try engine PRIMER before investing in paint?

In Tuscon is rusted metal a worry at all? Spray some oil on it until ready to finish it off. Then brake cleaner will get it ready. I use paint only, no primer. Seems that to thick of paint buildup just causes problems. Many restoration articles say to skip the primer on engines. Works for me.

Compression tested my 73 Newport and it’s rough. Is it worth trying to get it started or just rebuild the motor first?

Battery cables need to be good, the power needs to make a full circle from battery positive to battery negative posts.

Compression tested my 73 Newport and it’s rough. Is it worth trying to get it started or just rebuild the motor first?

Wont start like that. The timing chain is the first stop. Jumped teeth, valves not in sync with pistons, won't build any compression. All 8 low tells you to start there. Unless bent valves on all 8 cylinders.
