Use a white pipe thread sealant like permatex or loctite brand. I like nice clean engines myself. Some are not too concerned.

Maybe on the Monacos the code referenced the lower cladding? I think trim codes could mean different things depending on model

Agree on the 68s at least. I have 2 68 L codes with drums. Monacos, auto and manual.
