how much does it normally cost? I just called Monster transmissions out of Florida, and they want 4K to rebuild my tranny, but they would be beefing it up to withstand the horsepower from the engine! Anybody have any experience with them?

Do I have any local experts in here that can recommend a good transmission company that is an expert in Mopar?

I do have a 65 440 I was happy that it matched the car

When I bought the car it was all original, I had a very reputable shop swap out the 383 for a completely rebuilt 440 (they also did the rebuild). We did no work to the transmission, and I do not believe it was ever taking out of the car. I did have them install a new converter.

About 17 years ago, maybe 7-10k miles. The car always ran perfect, no vibration. My thoughts are they were always loose and have contributed to the converter bolts coming loose twice over the years.

Now that I have put this much effort into removing the trans to replace the flex plate, I don’t want to have to do it again at a later date. So my thought is to rebuild it or replace it. Replacing it creates some concerns . Knowing this tranny is unique having two shifting cables going to it...

I agree with you that it would be easier the next time, but who wants to do it twice. I know the tranny has been slipping going into reverse, so it’s only a matter of time before all gears start. It just makes sense to get it done now.

Here is where I stand. Today has been an absolute f-ing nightmare! Things started well, I unloaded the torsion bars, one was easy the other I don’t want to talk about. Then it came time to remove the cross member, it came out very easy. Ok now it is time to move back the trans, we pulled back...

Well I dove back into it this morning, and I took most peoples advice and started unloading the torsion bars, the driver side was super easy. I marked the socket with a black marker and went a complete 35 turns. The passenger side can go F itself, holy crap I sprayed the crap out of this side...

The only thing leaking it the water pump.

That is my intention, but the crossmember is in the way of sliding it back.

Yes I have unbolted it, I have all of the bellhousing bolts out disconnected the trans lines, speedometer… I have the tranny Jack under it just need to try and slide it back to see if there are any other issues.
