Actually, NPT threads do not seal on the threads. The threads are tapered, so when it's tightened, the flanks make tighter and tighter contact. But at the root of the threads, there will be a leak path that spirals all the way out. So in some applications they will leak without a sealant...

I strongly recommend you write out your goals AND BUDGET for the build and then talk to your engine builder or machine shop before you buy anything. As mentioned by @CBODY67 there's a lot of interconnectednessofitall going on here.
