    mysterious carburetor problem

    Definitely electrical. Check wiring connections at the bulkhead at the firewall. Do a voltage drop test starting at the fuseable link. Corrosion and burnt / bad connections can cause your symptoms. Possible sources to check, bad ignition switch or points and condenser.

    It’s my understanding that 1967-73 Imperials share a ton of parts. I think the calipers 68 and older were Budds and the 69 and newer were Kelsey Hayes. I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

    Is the short block serviceable as is? If so, I would buy stealth heads and a performer or ch4b intake. Maybe change the cam. I think that would be the most economical away to make power if the short block is good
