Here's a couple of 1968 Monaco 500s on this site that have the belt molding code but no molding. Perhaps they just spun a roulette wheel to decide whether to install.

Did a quick Google image search & couldn't find a single 500 with the moldings. Did find an amazing example that sold on auction for $21k (a steal IMHO) but don't know how long ago. They claim only 24 500 L-code convertibles were built which is plausible...

My books also indicate the "0" is a body side belt molding, complete option code 540. However, the sales literature does not indicate that is even an available option on the 500 or any Polara. Apparently it came as standard equipment on all Polaras except the 500. I think it's just an anomaly...

Is that right? The brochures show the 500 without moldings & lower level Polaras with. It does appear to have optional fender turn signal indicators.

It was a mandatory option in 1967 C-bodies with the 440HP. Perhaps not "standard" as it appears as an option code, a matter of semantics.

Adjusting for inflation you'd have to multiply those numbers by 10 or more, not peanuts by any means. The early 4-piston fixed caliper Budds were more expensive than the later single piston floaters. Neat window sticker!
