    1968 440 dying on me

I would pull the bulk head apart and check all connections there, also mine was doing searthat very same thing, 68 300 with 440, and I found the point set was defective. The plastic piece that holds wires and the contacts spring all together was loose causing point gap to close. I put on anew...

    1968 440 dying on me

When it dies, is there fuel in the float bowl of the carb and also fuel in the fuel tank? Just curious. If there is no fuel in the float bowl, evidenced by the accel pump shot when the car dies, it can possibly be two things. One is the fuel pump pushrod has worn enough to not let the fuel...

Welcome to the site from the Motor City! When you replaced the fuel pump did you check the length of the fuel pump pushrod?

    1968 440 dying on me

Hi, I am new to this forum. Located in the Netherlands and working on a 1968 New Yorker with standard 440 and original carb. Bought the car some months ago and have driven it for about 100 miles. Then it died. Working on it for several weeks now, replacing or rebuilding a lot of stuff (checked...

    Battery size?

A 27 is the correct battery. May look better to some, but the heavier weight can be an issue if the owner moves batteries around. I don't enjoy lifting group 27 batteries anymore. You take care of the battery and don't drain it a 24 will function just fine and easily start a big block. Corner...

Is there no source for OEM HVAC parts and rebuilding?

OK, thanks! I took a look at the picture - very very helpful! Much appreciated! So, @Henrius - this helps you too. The document that @65CopCar posted will allow you to buy a brand new vacuum controller switch for your AC dash, and not worry about the differences in how the wires hook up...

A-727 swap to 360 what trans fluid recommendation.

    Viscosity loss (20 hour KRL Shear test) Dexron-3 40%, ATF+4 10%. Dexron-3 = garbage.

A-727 swap to 360 what trans fluid recommendation.

Dexron 3 was factory recommended in 1972. I have used Dexron 3 with good performance in a 1968 727 that I rebuilt. It's behind a 1969 440. You will pay more for ATF+4, although it's fine for your car.

Am looking to replace the Interstate battery with a period correct looking one. Agree 27 looks WAY better than the 24 in the battery tray. Thanks for the inputs!

    Battery size?

IF you want a completely "black" battery, Interstate Battery has them. Three different warranty levels and prices, usually. ANY battery, Grp 24 or 27, will have a good bit more power than the OEM batteries of 1965. So that "small" grp 24 battery will have more power (CCA) than the grp 27...
