Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Regrettably I have not CC'd the heads, YET, but if I had to guess for now the CC would maybe be around 77? Maybe 76? The machinist that worked on my heads shaved 6 thou, I'm guessing the amount shaved was just to true up the surfaces from the block to head surfaces. Appreciate the tip off on...

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Speaking of oil pans, 440 source has a 6 quart pan for the C's, I plan on buying that pan soon. Making a slow & heavy car like the C's is quite the accomplishment. Lead sled express!

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

I suppose I've left out the 906's, very promising heads almost on the same level of 915/452? Forged pistons sounds neat, but I'm not at that level to fully utilize them unfortunately, speaking of cams I've ordered a cam but it's been backordered, playing the waiting game on parts for now.

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Awesome, I plan on experimenting with another pair of heads, trying different combinations of valve sizes, port work etc. but this will do for now. 452 heads were my close to 3rd option of heads to use, but the compression ratio would have certainly not been great. Shaving down the heads to...

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Thank you sir for telling me this, I've gone with just the 1.60/2.08 valves. But in my rush to the machine shop, I've forgotten to tell the gentleman that was going to do the machining to clean up the existing intake/exhaust ports. Still considering doing something about the casting flash...

Are LED headlights a worthwhile upgrade?

I agree, daily driving classics is quite the experience, The paint on the Dodge still has got some blemishes & small rust patches. I brang back the paint as much as I could with careful oxidation removal. But I'm still somewhat wary of getting the paint too dirty than it already is. It's...

Are LED headlights a worthwhile upgrade?

I too was in this Headlight/LED conundrum, I didn't want to modify the harness as it's intact & original, so if the next owner wants to put back the Halogens, it's ready to be swapped out. Led's draw very little current and very little heat compared to the Halogens, meaning driving in snowy...

    1964 361 missing accelerator bushing

Nice one, Brass being wear resistant, I didn't think of a brass plate to be used. Very good! Appreciate the follow up to the project, nice to see closure to a problem, now solved.

    1964 361 missing accelerator bushing

I will post the original posting I have put up regarding the bushing. Throttle linkage bushing source?? Here's the original posting I've had on the bushing conundrum. Big Thanks to @Dan Scully and @CBODY67

    1964 361 missing accelerator bushing

@MoparTony Here we are, I've used this bushing/bearing and drilled out the throttle bracket to secure the bushing/bearing into place. The bearing is almost a "press fit" so it fits snugly in the throttle shaft once secured. It's still possible to push the bearing onto the shaft. This is what I...

    1964 361 missing accelerator bushing

Hello & happy holidays (And happy new years) I've been notified by @MoparTony through a PM/DM about the bushing problem? I'll check my photo archives and get back to this posting ASAP apologies for the delay. As @Big_John has mentioned, I believe the bushing I've used as a replacement bushing...

Average 750 miles per year. What's the least expensive oil and filter to use for 1970 440?

Thought I should chime in as well, in the recent years I've been using Shell rotella T4 15W-40, it's got zinc in it, but not much, but better than the abysmal amount of zinc in Conventional oils. Here's a third party oil analysis from petroleum institute of america, they do alot of oil analysis...

    New cam, new valve springs?

Hello sir. I cannot do a compression test currently since the engine is down to the bare block, but if I had a guess, the cylinders are at or near 120PSI. The compression numbers are the highest readings from another 361 in my daily driver with high mileage. Unless the link sent you to the...

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Hello sir, Agreed on finding a good engine for $100 range may be long gone now, even a slant-6 even fetched a price of $200 in my searches. Oh no, not at all sir, I don't know everything, I'm still a greenhorn among these Mopars & a broke college student to boot, that being said the rebuild is...

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Hello sir. Very much true on everything you have said, from parts that the 383's will accept is much broader than the smaller cubes counterparts. One excuse if I may, there were a couple 383's that I have perrused, but they were either too far for me to come and pick it up or the shipping...

Machining work 516 heads port work/bigger valves/hardened seats??

Hello sir. Great to hear from you again, I agree the consensus is to go for the more plentiful 383's, but my vision of the car would otherwise not be viable. Reason I'd like to stick with the 361, it's got enough cubes to get a good amount of torque for around town driving, and while not...

    New cam, new valve springs?

Hello sir, gotcha thanks. I'm still having a long hard think on whether I should drop the hammer and buy the new cam or stick with the original cam. The break in for the new cam (when the time comes) Is the part I'm most worried about. Anywho, thanks.

Nick in crank journal, machine shop or??

Hello sir, Oh no sir, I didn't think of the previous message as a lecture as talking down on someone, not at all. I have taken some of the advice you have given me and am now attempting to put into practice. Some of the points you mentioned reminded me of my automotive professors I had a few...
