    Door Adjustment

Also, if the hinges are very worn and have no adjustment left, you can remove the hinge completely and slot the holes a little using as rat tail file. Using these methods allows you a bit of time before replacing the hinge pins and bushes. Adjust the hinge on the pillar side to raise/lower the...

    Door Adjustment

Loosen the mounting bolts on the pillar at the top hinge and lift/jack up the rear of the door a little the retighten the bolts (use a 2x4 under the door frame and BE Gentle) - never seen a door with no adjustment. If the upper hinge is at the most forward limit then loosen the bottom hinge and...

    Changing the ugly out

Yep, I'm going to give it a shot - nice lady at dmv last time 'slipped' that I should not show my receipt next time :) Guess it will depend on the agent I get, or maybe they have hard and fast rules now. I'm from NZ where the process is quite a bit different.

    Changing the ugly out

I would've thought so too, but I took a receipt with me that was not in the titled owners name - rookie mistake, I guess :)

    Changing the ugly out

I looked into it, it's called a bonded title here and easy enough to get for around $100. Problem is local DMV wants a valuation done my an authorized dealership before they will process it. That means a tow to and from, plus their fees and that's even if I can find one that will/can do it. I...

    Changing the ugly out

Finally found some time to do something to the car. Got rid of the ugly gray primer and surface rust. So far I have only sanded it back and used white primer instead, but it sure looks a lot nicer. Thought I had a leaking wheel cylinder, but it was dry as a bone inside the drum. It is...

    Ever straightened a bumper yourself?

really hard to tell for sure from the pic, but to me it looks more twisted down at each end - which would also explain the gap difference in the center. I'd be tempted to mount it and then try to raise up each end gently with a floor jack and a piece of 4x4. Maybe someone jacked the car from...

    wheel cylinder worth re-conditioning

Yep, In NZ there isn't as big a market for parts, especially for older cars so improvisation and rebuilding is pretty much a given. Rotorua born, Auckland for many years and last in the Waikato - Hamilton *edit* My bad, there is a big market, but not a big supply available

Are you able to cut and polish it like lacquer <sp> or is it like enamel and the spray finish is the final finish?

    wheel cylinder worth re-conditioning

Poor choice of words on my part, I did mean honed, as in cleaned up inside. Thanks for clarifying though :)

    wheel cylinder worth re-conditioning

I grabbed a pair of rear cylinders from RA, but I haven't fitted them yet. I thought the price was worth not having to rebuild to originals, but as I said, I can't confirm anything yet... If you need to rebore them I think around 1200 is an ok finish - someone correct me if my memory isn't right.

Mathilda, Our Lovely 66 Newport, Wantonly DESTROYED by a Gen Xcrement Sociopath!

I'm with everyone else here in being very grateful to hear everyone is ok. Imagine if you were in a smaller car, things could have been soo much worse. Back in the day I used to be a panelbeater, body shop technician I think you all call them, and as such I will let you know I have repaired...
