I have seen manifolds just crack. Tends to happen on more modern cars, the iron isn't quite as thick as it used to be. Aero-kroil or Kroil oil is IMO the best for this. Spray it on, next day do it again. When you tackle it, nuts and bolts generally come right off.

So, how much money did they really save with all the extra labor and fiddling around to make something the same only different?

I was taught, if the part being removed isn't a "machined" surface anymore use RTV on it. A small bead around the area the gasket sits in. Then smear it flat with your finger. You should still be able to remove it later if need be, and it should seal in the imperfections time and age has given...

If you're worried about bolts lining up, look up the oil pan gasket. If its the same, there you go..

When reinstalling the bar (note its shaped like a "U" ) the two legs of the U point down. You can install it either way, but if you install it wrong it'll knock like hell with every swipe. If you're a dumby like me, you'll spend the afternoon getting stitches when the bar slices your hand open...

I'd call a lock smith and see if you can bring one of the lock cylinders in from one of the front doors and cut a new key. I bought a car from an estate sale a couple of years ago. They told me to bring in the RF door lock cylinder. The keys still work today.

You really should use what the car was designed to use. Hub centric or Hub piloted requires the hub to center the wheel on the axle center. Stud piloted, or coarse, use the studs to center the wheel and generally use a different lug nut design as well. There are spacers made for wheels with the...
