Transmission leaking when car is jacked up from front

I don't have a '65 FSM, but if I remember correctly, The front u-joint was the ball and trunnion type and if so there would be no slip yoke and associated bushing. In '66 the slip yoke was open ended and had a seal on the inside as well as the outside. So the question is, "what 727 TF is...

    727 Missing a click

Looking at the first post, there is a triangular shaped bracket which seems to be held in place by a couple pan bolts. That looks like a bracket on the trans on a '88 police cruiser I had years ago. the purpose of that bracket was to prevent selecting low gear ("1") position. I removed the...

    1966 Dodge Monaco

That looks like a distribution block. Top line is from MC, two on right side are to front brakes and line on left goes to rear brakes. If this is correct, there are no moving parts inside, hence nothing to "go wrong". It seems you are still using the single MC.. If this is so, you should upgrade...

Unable to get ‘68 904 into Park

Two thoughts. Are you sure this is not a linkage problem? have you tried shifting into park with the linkage disconnected at the trans shift lever? Also an old (long gone) trans specialist directed me to strain the fluid through a disposable paint strainer before reusing it. Lindsay

    1965 fury front brake

If the master cylinder is not returning enough to clear the relief port, pressure will not release. Could be a weak spring in the MC or problem in the booster. Also, what if a residual pressure valve in the MC is failing? Have you switched to a dual MC? You should- for safety sake! AMHIK!! Lindsay

    '67 Fury Headlights

Hi-beam is the lower bulb. Has to do with aiming angles? Surely someone more knowledgeable will enlighten us as to the reason. Lindsay

Suspected bad ground - call for suggestions

Since this seems to affect several circuits, might the ground from the engine to the body be "shaky"? check at the back of the right cylinder head. The battery grounds to the left head and this completes the circuit for the body. I added such a ground to a car that did not have one to solve a...

    New Member, New Polara

Stev, As I said before, you are an inspiration! I truly look forward to your progress. WRT going to the show with an unfinished car- that will be an inspiration to many! At our weekly show in the village down the road, we see cars in all stages of repair, and watch the progress as they are...

    WANTED 1966 A745 3 speed transmission

FYI - The '66 trans uses a one year only rear seal and slip yoke arrangement. The bushing and seal in the tailshaft housing is the usual stuff, but the tailshaft has a seal on it that seals to the inside of the slip yoke and the slip yoke is open at the rear. When I rebuilt my '66 A745, I just...

    Uhaul trailer hitch fitment

Having fabricated and installed hitches, I'm sure our cars are capable of hauling trailers in the range of two tons and a bit more. A weight equalizing hitch with sway control and proper trailer brakes are necessary. 3.23 gear is a big plus. Having said this, remember the age of our cars and be...

    Steeringbox acting strange...

Check the FSM. There is a "high spot" at the center position where the gear mesh is tighter. Procedure is to disconnect the pitman arm, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, counting the turns, and return it to the exact center position before setting the preload. If something is bent or...

What did you do to your C-body today....

Been getting the Fury ready for the Atlantic Nationals, an annual 5-day show held here in Moncton. I go with my oldest daughter and her two kids. This is the "highlight" of my year! Waxing, cleaning, checking and such. Today, I decided to check the ignition points and timing. Not having...

    1965 300 Bleeder Screws

Sounds same as my '66 Fury. I cut a short "ring" off the end of a properly sized 1/4 drive 6 point socket and welded a piece if 1/4" bar stock on it (vertically) for a handle. It worked for me- hope this might help. Lindsay

Checking/adjusting bands at every fluid change?

I had a 727 fail to engage in reverse on a very cold morning. The problem was a very dirty filter. I replaced the filter, adjusted the bands and filled with new fluid and ran the trans for seven more years with no problem. None of this is difficult and IMHO is worth the effort. As a side note...

    Driveshaft geometry question

Ran in to a similar situation with car on stands under frame. Yoke would not slip in far enough to allow rear u-joint to be installed. After a bit of head scratching, I put a jack under the differential and gained the clearance needed. The u-joint swings at the front of the drive shaft and the...

    Im close to going Ford

I agree that they are nice and worthy of preservation. Having driven several when they were "new', my observation is/was that the Mopar engineering was "ahead of the pack". The Phord and Generic Motors offerings were very style and comfort oriented. Braking and handling were secondary. Just my...

    Death in the family

So Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my dad in '76, at 56 years old and mum in '12, at 93 years old. Sad and sobering. Take solace in good memories and cherish the lessons learned. Our loved ones may be gone physically, but they need never leave our spirits. Good memories are a great blessing...

I recently bought and installed lower ball joints on my 66 Fury. Contact @mobileparts. Craig will fix you up and the price will be great. He's a great guy to deal with and knows what he's talking about. Lindsay

1969 Fury I turn signals were slowing down now dont work

Is the battery negative grounded to the engine and the engine grounded to the firewall (body) behind the right cylinder head? If so, is the ground to the body good? I have solved problems in the past by replacing a frayed cable and/or cleaning up connections at this area. On one car, I even...
