    Why I drive old cars.

Our C Bodys were when built, among the best engineered cars on the road. They were built to be driven in demanding circumstances and survive. Well, the cars we own are testamony to this! Barring serious exposure to the dreaded road salt and major collision damage, they have triunphed over 50...

    1958 Plymouth Belvedere - 3 speed auto....is there a transmission filter???

I'm sure others have more info on this, but my '63 had an inline filter in one of the lines to the cooler in the radiator. Might look there. Lindsay

    Death in the family

Losing a parent is very difficult, but they live on in our memories. Cherish the good ones and share them with friends and family. God Bless you and yours. Lindsay

    New Member, New Polara

I found that careful use of a heat gun will easily remove the wrinkles in the vinyl around the arnrest bases. That hole is another matter...... Lindsay

Hobby Upholstery shop setup and projects

I have great respect for those who work with fabrics. Metals, wood and rigid plastics are "dimensionally stable", while fabrics twist, stretch and distort so easily. Your skill is amazing. Lindsay

    Loose Side View Mirror

I agree with Darter6, good plans, but the glue did not last well for me and my mirror didn't have the snap ring. A local auto glass shop cut a replacement glass and I smashed the old glass out. In my mirror, the leaf spring was almost broken in half and was retained by "rivets" cast integrally...

What is this part and what does it do?

In answer to the initial question, I believe that part is an anti theft device. If the key cylinder is removed (perhaps by a thief using a slide hammer) that device disables the ignition. This is "foggy" in my memory, havn't seen that for over 30 years. Lindsay

NOT MINE 1968 Dodge Monaco 500 Conv. $30k CAD (about $22k USD) Porters Lake Nova Scotia (Canada)

Yellow lights are fog lights. Porters Lake is on Nova Scotia's eastern shore and is frequently envelloped in very dense fog. The fog lights are useful in these conditions. Been there, done that! Lindsay

    Radiator, recore or replace?

My first thought is to re-core. Was the radiator cooling well? Is the core bad or maybe just a seam in need of re-soldering? I have had several re-core jobs done with excelent results in all cases. I have usually added an extra row of tubes when "in the business", just for insurance. Lindsay

    Welcomed

As you can see, I also have a 66 Fury I. I've had mine for 32 years and enjoy it very much. Pictures and details, please. What are your plans and what are you working on? Lindsay

fresh oil out of the tailpipe

"200 miles, 5 stops to buy/add oil". I had a low milage Datsun engine using 4 quarts in 100 miles. It had 17K miles and ran quite well, but would foul all 4 plugs if I didn't disengage the clutch when slowing down. Rings were shot. (that was the first and last Jap car for me!) Compression test...

fresh oil out of the tailpipe

"Fresh oil out of the tail pipe". Do you mean liquid oil dripping from the tailpipe, or volumes of oil smoke? Did the engine overheat after the belt was replaced and the cooling system refilled? Are the spark plugs fouled? Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? How did the engine run...

    Question on harmonic balancer

Paul, I know the rubber in a balancer can slip, but I have never seen that. I have never needed to replace a balancer. That said, if you have doubts, check the TDC mark on the balancer against the actual TDC position of the #1 piston. That is when you would use the piston stop. If the engine is...

    Timing and engine temp

While I am familiar with the term "rodding" a radiator, I've never seen it done. What does the tool look like? Is it an actual rod, or a type of brush, or what? Thanks Lindsay

    67 charging issue

Pic in post#1 looks like the old pre electronic regulator. If so there should be only one field terminal on the alternator. The other brush is grounded. If this is the case, I believe the test should be to remove the wire from the field terminal at the alternator and supply battery voltage to it...

has anyone driven a large distance?

Drove the 66 Fury from Moncton NB to Montana, into Alberta and back through Canada to Moncton. On the road 7 weeks. Ten states and five provinces. Hauling my 18 foot travel trailer. I did repair the Carter BBD at a picnic table due to a failing float valve and I adjusted the clutch once. I will...
