    I have a confession to make…

Wayne at BCM and TurboStart unfortunately failed to come through with the restoration battery. Other than that just a few items than need attention but it looks decent. I am finding that some 72s use standard ignition wires. At least they are new, and say Chrysler Corporation on them with a...

Neat, clean exhaust, no rattles and does not touch the axle like the Waldron tailpipe did. I’m disappointed because I wanted to like their system.

Success! I need to do the pitman arm and idler arm tomorrow and fine tune the brakes but the car now drives without howling!

The car needs to have the brakes bled and I can go drive it.

You can see how much Dr Diff’s axle retainer was warped just trying to remove the axle, and how much of a difference it is between a stock unit. There is a snowball’s chance in hell that the end play would have been even close to the larger side of spec with the big shoulder missing. Pair this...

    I have a confession to make…

The car is back together with a factory axle retainer on the left side, it will do for going to the show and back. I had a disappointing email exchange with an employee from Dr. Diff. I was fought the entire time and was told basically I had caused my own problem. I can’t recommend Dr. Diff...

Right side done. I will just borrow an axle from my other 72 for now. I will set the endplay tomorrow after the axle swap.

    New interior

The problem is SMS bought out all their competitors so they behave however they want since you can’t go to the “other guys”…

    I have a confession to make…

Sadly the axle retainers from Dr. Diff were not great. The driver side was machined incorrectly and one of the holes for the studs was machined like 1/32” of an inch off, and the axle retainer got wedged. Then when I went to go take it back off… one of the nuts I had started got galled and will...

I had to swap out the radiator and I swapped the cracked fan shroud while I was in there. This is probably partly why the car overheats in stop-and-go traffic. I will be recoring this radiator and reinstalling it eventually.

I had a lead but was beat to it.

    72 imperial 2-door seals

Best luck is NOS or good used originals. Try Murray Park. www.cbodies.com

1971 Imperial brake parts availability questions.

The Chrysler-Bendix ABS is a 3-channel ABS system where each front wheel and the rear differential sent speed signals to the computer. This system used a tone ring on each rotor and a tone ring on the ring gear with a hall-effect sensor. This is very similar to a modern system still found on...

1971 Imperial brake parts availability questions.

This ABS is super rare 71-73 IIRC. I’m not sure if parts are available for it, but maybe modern parts or parts from other cars may fit. I have done research and rotors and drums from a Buick LeSabre fit Imperials, on paper.

So the parts Waldron remade and hand delivered did not fix my concern. I compared it to the NOS muffler and NOS tailpipe and you can see theirs (left) is longer than the NOS Chrysler parts (right). Sadly they were informed of this and still remade the exhaust incorrectly.

    I have a confession to make…

The new master cylinder is in. Now I am getting the rear brakes done, axle shafts will get new wheel bearings on Monday. Then to reassemble and on to the next thing… Reseal the trans pan I just resealed that is now leaking instead of seeping. Then radiator hoses and clamps next, exhaust again...

Tux all cleaned and waxed for the big show.

Love it! I can’t wait to see it at Carlisle.

    I have a confession to make…

The car went on a 360 mile road trip on the weekend through Milwaukee. It was super close to overheating in the stop and go of the big city. I’m going to install a Flowkooler water pump in anticipation of Carlisle, and the Belvidere Happening. The rear brakes are also getting thin so new shoes...
