Silly question about adjusting brake shoes

So, on my '66 Newport with 4 wheel drums, after getting the brake booster rebuilt and the pushrod length adjusted, my brakes are a little too sensitive and easy to lock up. I think they are adjusted too close to the drums. I know the FSM says to back the adjuster wheel "10 - 12 clicks" after a...

    Intermittent horn

Hi. In my '66 Newport the horn has recently been only working intermittently. At the moment, it's not working at all. The FSM only describes how to check functionally of the horns themselves, and their relay, all of which work properly. My guess is "wear" in the horn button assembly itself. I...

    Red Xs and “titles”

I got a RED X from someone after I complimented someone’s car. Does this impact my “rating” in any way? Also, what are the thresholds for titles like member, well known member, old man with a hat, etc?

Static on radio when brakes applied or turn signals flashing

I have an aftermarket radio installed by the PO. It’s a early ‘90s Kenwood with cassette deck, lol. When I apply the brakes or operate turn signals there is static. Is there a condenser or something I need to add? Thanks!

brake booster rebuilt, now brakes are WAY TOO sensitive!

So I just got my brake booster back from Power Booster Exchange in San Jose (took two months!). Got everything installed, brakes bled, etc. Brakes are now EXTREMEMLY touchy. Dangerously so. It's basically nothing and then full lockup. Is this a booster pushrod issue? The push rod looked to...

Car sat for 2 months, now starter just clunks

After two months of sitting waiting for the brake booster to be rebuilt, the starter now just clicks when I try to start the car. Sounds like the solenoid is popping forward but not spinning. The battery has been on a tender this whole time, and jump starting from another vehicle did not...

    Those pesky rear quarter windows

Please watch the video in the link below and leave your comments if you care to, or have any insight. For what it’s worth, yes I’ve read the factory service manual and the section that details adjusting the window might as well be written in pig Latin, because it’s almost no use. Also, the two...

Adding 4 way hazard flashers - how difficult?

My '66 Newport was not ordered with 4 way flashers. How difficult is it to retrofit them to the car? I imagine sourcing the dash switch would be the hardest part . . . thanks!

Is this rust or air bubbles in the bondo?

So I’ve got this showing up in a few places where this is a skim coat of bondo. Is it rust coming through or air bubbles from the bondo that got trapped by the paint? Paint job is somewhere between 6 and 15 years old, I’m guessing.

    Wiper motor wire insulation

The Prestolite variable speed wiper motor on my 66 Newport seems to be hardwired. I really wanted to take this off and get it to the bench for a good cleanup and refresh, but now it looks like I’m gonna be stuck doing just a basic cleaning and putting it back. Any tips?

Four Seasons (or other) part number cross reference?

Does anyone have/know a cross reference part number for this single action thermal expansion valve sold by Bouchillon? Single Action Expansion Valve - R134 - Bouchillon Performance Engineering It's what I need but it's about triple the price that it should be. Hoping to find the...

    retaining clamps for AC hardline

Does anyone know what the clamps are called that hold the AC line to the inner fenderwell (going from drier/receiver back to the firewall)? They are like a half circle, plasti-dip insulation, held in place with a sheet metal screw. I need 3 of them, but don't know what to call them or if...

Paint color for various underhood things

1966 Newport. Repainting underhood things like the horns, various brackets for AC components, battery brackets, hood hinge brackets, etc. My car is black, so everything under the hood is black but I can’t tell if certain things are black because of the car color, or because they just should...

What to do about all of this rot?

Somewhere between “replace the entire firewall with a new panel” and “do nothing” exists the solution I will employ. This car is only driven in fair weather, so honestly, there won’t be water getting near these areas except when I wash the car. My current thought is either plug those holes with...

Thermal expansion valve with sanden style compressor

So I’m converting to the Sanden style compressor and I’ve got the thermal expansion valve that supposedly works with that set up. Question it is I don’t know where this part of the tube goes to. Any suggestions?

    Choke settings

So, after my distributor grenaded and caused all manner of bucking and stumbling, my choke settings are no longer what they used to be. My fast idle speed has changed and the choke plate seems to be closed too much, causing it to run like poo-poo on initial start. I’ve made some adjustments to...

Question about 2-cycle oil additive and spark plug color

So upon the advice of some here at FCBO, I've been using 2-cycle marine oil as an additive to my gas at 1oz:5 gal of 91 non-ethanol gasoline. While dealing with my distributor malfunction and troubleshooting the entire ignition system, I found my spark plugs were quite brown and glazed (making...

Cylinders 3 and 5 running cooler

Got my distributor replaced with one from HalifaxHops after the "Rick E." unit I had self destructed. The engine fired right up, but there still seems to be an issue. I haven't driven it yet, but just getting it warmed up I can tell it's running rough. I put new plugs in it while the dizzy...

    Distributor shaft side play

Please see video below. I don’t know what the specs are but it seems like this is probably too much play and I will just end up destroying another reluctor wheel and pick up if I don’t replace the bushing. Let me know please, thanks.

    Timing chain slipped a tooth?

The audio in this video is not great due to the iPhones built-in compression, so it’s not sounding the same in the video as it is in real life. Was pulling out into highway traffic today, a 50 mile an hour zone, and did my usual good, hard acceleration, and I got to about 2500 and the engine...
