    Differential gear change?

69 Pontiac 428 you say? Well, I guess it was nice with the 2.56. In 75 I drove a 69 Bonneville 2dr th400 428 with 3.23 gear, quite the hotrod it was. Probably with any rear gear. I wish Chrysler had offered that 2.56.

    Differential gear change?

I have an 87 5th Ave 318 with stock 2.20 rear gear. It runs cool. It "was" very nice at 80 mph, but a real dog in town. As in the most aggravating car I've ever driven. Worse than an old 36 hp VW beetle. Really, I'm serious. So, I moved the shift points up 15 mph, just fine in town now. Leaves...

Thanks for your observation on "the OEM stock feel".

    Trans fluid .

I pump six quarts of this out the dip stick tube every 20k mile on my Dakota. That little truck has been properly abused towing 5 to 10k pounds all over the southeast since 1993. It has 250k miles on it. Napa has it for $25 a gallon this month, no shipping charge. If it's ordered online for home...

What's the difference between 1967 and 1969 rear drums? (do they interchange?)

I have a 72 New Yorker. It came to me with 2-inch rear shoes and retainer pins. I don't think it was made with 2-inch rear shoes and retainer pins. And the shoe positioning post was too long for the 2-inch shoes. I put 2.5 shoes and pins on the rear. They fit the shoe positioning post and...

    Fuel Pump Issues need diagnosis

Put a long rod in there that sticks out and see if the cam is good when you crank the motor over.

What are you working on today??

The VW New Beetle strikes again. Headlight assemblies are toast. Fogged plastic lenses and other assorted aged out plastic parts. The assemblies are available for $100 each. BUT, the stupid design plastic retaining lock rings that hold the whole assembly in are only available used in various...

    1969 polara noisy engine fan

I've not had one engage on a cold start that wasn't in direct sunlight and more than 80 degrees outside. It Can take more than a minute to cool the clutch thermostat and release. The exception is a few that need to distribute the heavy fluid that has settled to the bottom of the clutch. Maybe...

    1969 polara noisy engine fan

It can be hot enough under the hood on a hot day for the fan to be engaged for a short time when the engine is started cold before it clears out the hot air and the clutch releases.

    mini starter fit issue

The mini starers are handy for cars that sit long enough to lose the gas from the carb. But we really don't need them because all these old cars get driven to work and back every day. Right?

What's the difference between 1967 and 1969 rear drums? (do they interchange?)

Question was. ----------------------I've made some measurements between the new 2.75" vs these old rear 2", and I've placed the new drums on the rear axle, they don't quite seat, they'd need another 1/4". I would guess that 2.5" would actually fit, or might need a small amount of the friction...

Steering wheel wants to turn right while idling, steering gear adustment or front-end alignment?

Idler arms are a pain in the butt. All these rubber bushed arm have some play in them going down the road. That's a bad thing, we don't want that. New 1964 New Yorker arms are slim pickens. So, I've been rebushing the frame mount swing end with new rubber kits. But that doesn't always make an...

Maybe the other box is good to go and will fix the problem without disassembly.
