Never worry about a rusted bolt

Project Farm on YouTube has done several videos on the subject of penetrating fluids. It's worth a watch for those of us who run into lots of rusty fasteners.

    '76 Newport 400-2 Off-Idle Stall

When you're right, you're right! Found a line that is ALSO on the throttle plate, that had no vacuum at idle, with a cap on it. Hooked gauge on it and tapped the throttle, and there's vacuum! The true ported vacuum port. Swapped dist over to that and did some quick idle speed and mixture screw...

    '76 Newport 400-2 Off-Idle Stall

At the location the distributor gets its vacuum, it's got about 15in of vacuum at idle w/ advance disconnected. When reconnected, timing brings vac up to about 26in.

In the factory location, along the throttle plate.

    '76 Newport 400-2 Off-Idle Stall

Checked the firing order, all is good there. I did see that the ignition module I replaced 2 years ago is only a 4 pin instead of a 5 pin, is that ok? Coil tested good. Base timing was 12 degrees, w/ vacuum at idle 31 degrees. I added 8 more to get 20 degrees base, 40 degrees w/ vacuum at idle...

    '76 Newport 400-2 Off-Idle Stall

I'll go through the ignition order and bring up the timing after work today. Hopefully daylight savings time hasn't screwed me like it always does by leaving me no daylight after getting off work! Need to get the garage cleaned up a bit so I can fit the yacht in there for maintenance! Thanks for...

    '76 Newport 400-2 Off-Idle Stall

I've got this wonderful issue that has been present ever since I purchased the car 2 years ago, and I'm getting quite sick of it. Holley 7366 Smogerator. Car will fall flat on it's face when you give it anywhere from 10%-80% throttle coming from a stop, and regularly stalls when I go to leave...

    74-78 Idler Arm Discontinued

Edit 2: I got it blowing heat! I had pulled the 30A fuse out for troubleshooting purposes and didn't put it in after reconnecting the purple vacuum line. All the electronics knowledge in the world can't save me from my own dumbassery :BangHead: Works in defrost AND auto! I'll check AC tomorrow...

    74-78 Idler Arm Discontinued

Got the old one out and the Moog in. While I obviously can't speak for the experiences of other people, mine didn't give me much fuss at all, just the usual prying with a screwdriver and bolt to get the bushing/washers to line up. No hammering necessary. Maybe they got the bushing length closer...

    74-78 Idler Arm Discontinued

Hey guys, I'm new here so if this has already been covered somewhere and I just missed it, I apologize and feel free to delete the thread. Otherwise... The idler arm on my '76 Newport started making a racket, the threaded end (whaddaya call that?) is moving up and down in the arm. Went to order...

    Welcome Austin Barnett to FCBO!

Hey there, I'm Austin from Missouri, I'm a moron who breaks things and occasionally actually fixes things, all the while asking myself why I keep doing it. I own a '76 Newport Custom, 55k miles as of 11/2020. She's a big boat, and that's all I want from her. Location: Missouri
