67 Newport Radiator replacement, reusing fittings

Okay, just to clarify. I see that the line is flared as well as how it meets the fitting. But where the fitting screws into the radiator is what I'm wondering about...

67 Newport Radiator replacement, reusing fittings

Looks like the drain cock has some Teflon tape. I've got a few rolls of white PTFE , is it all the same though? Yellow is for gas I think...

67 Newport Radiator replacement, reusing fittings

So I'm in the middle of replacing my radiator. I pulled the old transmission line fittings off the old radiator and cleaned them up. They look great, but before reinstalling onto the new radiator do I use any goop to seal them? There was so much crud on the old one, I can't tell for sure...

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

Tested it again tonight. No leaks. Held 18lbs for a good ten minutes. Took the tester back to O'Reillys before they charged me an arm. Then I ran the engine til it was good and hot. Still no leaks! I could tell there was good pressure by squeezing the upper hose, radiator got hot enough where I...

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

Pressure tested with engine cold up to 18 psi before I had a small leak on the upper hose. I'd better let the thermostat gasket dry fully too. I'll test it again tomorrow. How long should it hold pressure for? I had it on for about 5 minutes and it held constant. No sign of leaks at my freeze plug.

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

Also, how much pressure will this see? I feel like the previous one came out rather easily. But the instructions say only two full turns and no more.

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

The left side is flush, but the right side slipped in a little bit. I put goop all along the edge, then once I placed it in, i gooped it again and smeared it around.

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

So got the Dorman plug installed with the #1 goop. Before, I cleaned all the old gunk out of the hole, used fine sandpaper and brake clean also. Applied plenty of goop and tightened it according to the instructions. Once I was satisfied I noticed that's it's a little crooked. One side seemed to...

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

I mashed in some aluminum foil and made my best attempt at getting a rough measurement. So it looks like my 1.5" inside would agree with you, thanks! Just wanted to clarify also, this is a block plug. I found the head plugs are located between the spark plugs and this leaked is well below all...

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

Thats why I am trying to find a replacement. I can either buy them by a specific size or I can buy a set for a 383. But I can't actually find what size that hole in the picture needs. Id like to try the Dorman that was pictured above since it looks like I dont have much room to install the...

This looks like a good option. Anyone use these? Do I use a sealant? What part number do I need?

Leaking freeze plug on 67 383

I've got a leaking freeze plug on the passenger side of my Newport. It's not bad by any means. But it smells terrible. I'm worried about driving it and it blowing out completely. Any suggestions? It's roughly between the center two spark plugs. Not sure if it's possible to replace without...

    AC no longer working

Freon shouldn't just leak out over time (but then again our cars are several decades old now). Its a completely sealed system unlike all other "fluids" on a car, or even car tires for that matter. If the freon has leaked out, then thats a sign that there is a problem. Could be an o-ring has dry...

    AC no longer working

Was there any dye put in the system back on 03 to see where the leak might be? If I remember right, you need a special light to see it...ultra violet? Would the compressor just stop running if all the freon leaked out? Did the compressor stop or did it lock up and kill the engine as well...
