    Front suspension thoughts please

A good point on the bumpers.....I was able to replace a couple of these during my work on the front end....and I need to review. But, I will say, that when the car is loaded, in the center of travel, it does not travel very far down when the tires go over this small drop of maybe two inches...

    Front suspension thoughts please

I have begun work on the front end....but have not pulled the control arms for new bushings yet, they seem OK after checking. I replaced the lower ball joints and the shocks, as well as the steering joints, after replacing the steering gear box. When unloaded, the control arms dont...

    Ride Height............,Again

Far from expert on this but agree with Old Man on couple things.....cars look better than they did when rolling off the Hamtramck line.....if I spelled it right. Also agree on ride height. I have done some work on mine, but not all, and have adjusted several times. My goal is as said, to...

    Upper control arm bumper

As I was finishing up the ball joint and the new shock, I finally found the upper bumper under the load of mud and grime. And yes, I also found the square nut on the bottom....and thankfully not too bad to replace. Thanks for pointers....appreciate the leaning curve.

    Upper control arm bumper

Both of mine are gone, and a quick look has not helped. Anyone replace the uppers, and if so, how. I assume they have a bolt out the bottom of the rubber with a nut below.....but have not figured out where what or when yet. thanks

    Lower Ball Joint Fun

I must say thanks to one and all for the encouragement. After the nonsense on LH side, I almost said nah.... But, this type puller recommended by Halifax and also hemi71, worked like a charm. Wish I had tried on the nasty first one, but this second one was simple, did not even really...

    Lower Ball Joint Fun

I just ordered this type tool also recommended above.....and we will see. Also used to have an air hammer with pickle fork attach, never tried it. But, I have never thought to try this one by David, to drive out the stud with air hammer, cool idea. thanks again for better ideas. Now, I...

    Lower Ball Joint Fun

This is only entertaining when you finish the job......the other nite I did not sleep after the stubborn ball joint just laughed......I had to say thanks when it broke loose. But, I will try a couple other types of pullers on the next one. And, right now I can appreciate the thoughts above.

    Lower Ball Joint Fun

I have looked at this type of puller, but they have never seemed tuff enough.....but, jut for grins, I will get one. I went back this am and tried more heat and hammer with the pickle and nada. So, went to the bin and pulled out two pullers, the first was the small normal kind, short and...

    Lower Ball Joint Fun

Could not stand it.....dirty clothes back on and under the car. I am using an ancient blacksmith hammer that is pretty heavy, with backup from a dual headed heavier hammer......so not using small ball peens. And, tried two eschelons of the exercise. Will try more tomorrow. Interesting.

    Lower Ball Joint Fun

Finally got the new ball joint kit.....did intend to replace lowers, the ones that get the wear and tear, and while there, replace shocks. And, so far, it is an intention only. Pulled the torsion bar adjusters out 20 turns, almost loose. Removed the two big bolts thru the knuckle and brake...

    Lower ball joint pickle

My ancient pickle measures about 3/4 inch inside. I think I need more, this is without having the new ball joint in my hand to measure. But, just ordered one with 15/16 in hopes it will suffice.

    Ride Height?

Have finished adjust for now....car pretty level. After 2 3/4 turns on LF and 3/4 on RF, the fender height is close to 27 inches. The front tires are currently 205 70 15 that are 26 dia. with about 30 psi. So, to move the front about an inch, I had to move one side almost 3 turns of the screw.

    Ride Height?

So I just got motivated, and before raising, jounced the front end and measured the height. Raised front and backed off the RF torsion bar adjust 3/4 turn, and LF 1/2. Lowered car and no msd diff.....oh well. Earlier today, I drove to the dump that has nice flat asphalt. The RF appeared...

    Park Brake cross bar

Right you are BigJohn, but in this case, the cable is pulling, but too far and is still not far enough on this side. And, again right, I wish when I had the drums off it had occurred to me to measure both....it didnt. If you can measure yours for me, it would save me having to pull both...

    Park Brake cross bar

Wanted to finally check the operation of my E or park brake, as I was concerned that the long rear cable may have been sticking. So, pulled both drums and had the better half move the pedal up and down. Found a bit of sticking, so operated about 50 times while pushing the lever back with a...

    Drum Brake lesson learned

I continue to hope that the beijing glue is better today than was then.....although as you wander thru the stores whether Lowes, Walmart or NAPA, the parts, the pieces and the stuff comes from china, mexico, and a bit from vietnam......but not from iowa or detroit any more. Wonder where this...
