On my '58, I painted mine a silver color, therefore keeping that "raw metal look" and contrast to the black color of the chassis, but protecting it nonetheless.
Not sure it applies for later cars, but as the story goes, for the late '50s cars, the inside of the cars were painted with a mix of all paint residues from the paint line. So it was a kind of grey color.
It's not an A/C car, and I've double checked : the engine number matches the dataplate, N0R code.
The only thing I see that could maybe explain it : it's a canadian car.
