Confirming this steering gear box, 68 Newport

If I seem to remember correctly, the way to bleed the box itself is to put a hose (or just keep one of them on), and then rotate the steering wheel a few times left to right while one of the hoses empties the fluid into your container, and keep doing that until it dries up. Perhaps worth doing...

What are you working on today??

Took apart my AC compressor as I wanted to go through it anyways. I swear, some of the stuff looked brand new if it wasn't already: I was really impressed with what I saw. I even took the clutch off without that special tool: I had a scraper nearby, one of those that has the cuts built into...

1968 Polara 500 440 Magnum 4-speed Anyone seen this car?

That's the saddest part about these cars, I think - some of the valuable, low optioned cars are just beyond saving, unless you have deep pockets and are dedicated to seeing the project through. I consider myself (and I'm sure others feel the same) fortunate that our cars are in such good shape...

    Pertronix nightmare

I got an electric ignition kit from Rick Ehrenberg's eBay for my 383, haven't used it but I've heard very good things about him and it's basically the same as the OEM EI components used on the 70 and up Chryslers. Points are pretty easy though, if nothing else have HalifaxHops refurbish the...

I like those cup holders on the vent windows. That's clever.

    '69-'72 Spindles or '73 Spindles?

From my memory it's on the upper portion of the spindle where the upper ball joint hooks on, so maybe if you had a flashlight and sanded it down a bit then I would say yes, probably.

    '69-'72 Spindles or '73 Spindles?

I found a thread about this a while ago, I'll try to find it, but the 1969-72 spindles have a unique PN compared to the 73 spindles - if you can read the PNs on your spindles, shoot them into google and that thread should come up. That's how I found out mine were indeed 72s.

    Source for suspension parts

I would just say use RockAuto myself, but you can probably get better parts from other places. I could probably stand to replace all the rubber bushings myself, but suspension is hell of work to do in an apartment complex on jack-stands. I think the major thing with accessing the upper...

    Phantom C bodies

I've toyed around with the idea of putting a 440 six pack in my regular 4 door 68 Newport, if I ever found one, and wondering how good that would actually work for fuel economy and power balance compared to a regular 4 barrel. Although as far as I understand it a properly jetted 4 barrel is...

    Early disk brakes

Mainly the parts availability. The 67-68 kits are more or less unobtainable, and for the calipers specifically, I seem to remember they actually have a spring inside each piston bore, compared to the Kelsey-Hayes single-piston caliper that was used on the 69 and up disc systems, which only had...

What are you working on today??

Assembled my rotor/spindle assembly for my disc brakes, with oil seal, bearings, and all the other hardware. Calipers and adapters are next.

    Found on Instagram.

Usually, when it comes to these cars, I don't think it's worth the effort to go through a frame-off restoration for a car that likely has a rotted frame from sitting in the grass for so long. If this is a legit FBI car (and even without, tbh, a 4-speed sedan is pretty cool in general), I would...

    Found on Instagram.

I wonder how many sedan models in general had the 4-speed. Generally that would be the 'sportier' option on these cars. Sportier in the same way vitamin water is good for you.

    Vent window crank

That's what I was thinking, broken or cracked gear. Usually accompanied by a loud grinding sound or the crank skipping teeth, although that doesn't seem to be the case here. I think all of the C-Body cars share the same manual regulator parts if memory serves, at least 67-68 are the same, as...

    Mystery: Exhaust fumes pretty bad

Only things that would come to my mind are an exhaust leak or a broken/cracked pipe somewhere down the line for each exhaust pipe. It could also be that you're burning oil, my 383 has that issue (really needs to be torn apart and freshened up). It's something akin to a burnt foliage smell...

    Carburetor for '68 Monaco

    Carburetor for '68 Monaco

I would say, if you're feeling adventurous, take the carb apart and put it in some acidic soaking agent for 30 minutes or so and see how it cleans up. Reassemble with a new kit, accelerator pump, and look at the specifications if any of the carb's linkages or choke equipment needs adjusting...
