68 Newport power steering pump and pulley replacement

Your best friend and most accurate information on parts crossover between A-B-C and models and years is the parts book. Find the part and you can see what it all fits or doesn’t fit. I find the correct p/n for my application and then see what other models and years it fits. So if you find a part...

    Carter bds 2 barrel issues

Sometimes the wandering idle is due to the mechanical advance and not always the carburetor. I tried to set mine around the 600 rpm range. I would think I just had it set and it would either jump up to 800 rpm or drop down to around 500 RPM. It turned out that my mechanical advance springs...

Oh crap, I just changed my oil with a low-zinc oil, what should I do?

You’re not racing. Grab a bottle of Risolone. Says it boosts it to 1700-1800 ppm. If you are already starting at 800, even if it is over stating the ZDDP. You should be plenty good to go until the next oil change.

9.25 Axel issue. Need input Please

I would check to make sure your U-joints are seated properly. Assuming if you spent the time on the rear-end, you did new u-joints as well. Sometimes when one presses out the u-joints on the front yoke. One can bend the yoke causing a slight misalignment causing vibration at different speeds...

What's the normal heat range fluctuation?

Nature’s version of stop leak? Also clogging up the radiator? Actually they look small enough to flow through. Make sure your radiator cap seal is clean in case these gritty little suckers are coating the seal allowing leakage.

    Engine idle rpm

For dwell tach multi meter multi use tool with thermometer probe. Harbor freight has one for around $40. Instructions are iffy but not too bad. LCD Automotive Multimeter with Tachometer Kit Mine came with a temperature probe(I used gloves and just held it on the radiator and thermostat...

    Engine idle rpm

My best investment was a dial back timing light with rpm readout. Found a 10-15% off coupon on either ORiellys or Autozone, purchased it on their website for pick up a went and got it. I believe with taxes it was under $70. Using this was how I found my mechanical advance was off (advance was...

    Hot engine after rebuild

I am pretty sure at 2000 rpm the engineers expected some additional airflow through the radiator from the vehicle movement. Above and beyond what the fan moves through. Also with the hood up you are recycling hot air through your radiator. Remember when the hood is closed the cool side (front)...

Fuel Not Exiting Carburetor Fuel Bowl

You should have a good strong stream from the accelerator pump. As said earlier the check ball is missing or hung up; the accelerator pump “piston” whether leather or rubber is not filling the bore to efficiently pump; or some of the varnish let lose and is plugging the jets. Accelerator...

Fuel starvation before tank is empty

You likely have a fuel delivery issue. Did the sending unit get put in and indexed correctly? (Usually only one way or it will leak). Was it the proper sending unit and is the fuel pickup sitting down in the sump where it belongs? If those check out. Have you checked the tank vents since the...

Need to replace trans pan gasket, maybe?

I put the real gaskets on my valve covers and transmission pan. Valve covers haven’t seeped a drop after 3 years and about 6,000 miles. The transmission gasket has a little seep. I will be the first to say that my car transmission pan has been beaten a couple of times, I probably didn’t get it...

Exhaust diameter on stock 1972 4002bbl manifold?

My local exhaust shop still has the old bend cards in a file cabinet. They did a perfect job on recreating my factory single exhaust. He built the y-pipe back to the stock mugger and NOS resonator.

    Crank no start 1972 440

Exactly. That’s why you cannot trust that the distributor is not 180 degrees off or that #7 is in the wrong place. Unless you had it running, you are relying on the last dummy that sold it because they couldn’t get it running. (Not calling you a dummy)

'67 Newport 383ci Starved For Fuel or Vacuum issue?

Check your fuel pressure. When you shut it off after chugging, take your air cleaner off and stroke the carb linkage. Are you getting a good solid stream out of the accelerator pump? If not check your fuel pump pressure and the length of your fuel pump rod. They can wear over the years...

    Vacuum Question

Yes you are tied into the main engine vacuum port. The purpose of this breather is crank case ventilation. You are creating crank case suction and will be burning oil as it is pulling it directly to your intake manifold. When you put it on the air cleaner where it belongs, you are only...

    Help Identifying Carter Carb

Yes tune up info is scattered in the service manual. That is why those green emissions tags are great, because most of the tune up specs are on there. (you can buy reproductions for almost any model) Basic timing advance info is in the "Engine" / Specifications (section 9). My Dodge manual...
