    When to replace transmission bands?

Just my opinion but I always replace both bands. If they are the originals then they are 50 years old. Sounds like you are using good parts I use the exact same ones in most of my rebuilds. The low/reverse band doesn’t get as much wear as the forward band but they tend to break more often from...

    General A727 Potential R&R questions/suggestions.

If you have never done a 727 or 904 trans I would recommend watching YouTube videos specifically cope racing transmission’s video. I know it says “racing” in the title but John Cope from CRT is probably one of the most knowledgeable guys on Mopar transmissions in the US. John sells parts for...

Question on carburetor needle and seats

do you have your old needle and seats that you can compare the new ones to? What brand was the rebuild kit. I have never had an issue with the needle and seats in a Holley brand or AED kit. Usually if the kit is for multiple carb variants it will have the different part options.

    1.5 Roller Rocker

I’m assuming you’re talking about for a big block? I have used harland sharp with stock length push rods made for adjustable rockers. Did not have to do any clearance work on the heads. Harland Sharp S70015K Harland Sharp Heavy-Duty Roller Rockers | Summit Racing

    What rear gear???

Stroke of a 383 in 3.375, 318 & 340 are 3.31, and the 360 is 3.58. The 383 has a shorter stroke than the small block 360. I drove many old Dodge trucks with 360 and 4.10 gears with 30 inch tires. We had one that made multiple trips from Michigan to Arizona it would sing on the highway and only...

    Clunky 2-3 shift

Yes give us some more info. Is it just a sound or do you feel it? Can you tell is the engine RPM jumping up during the shift between 2 and 3? It could be a number of different things. Could be worn clutch or possibly the 2nd gear band out of adjustment. Has the trans been worked on recently?

    Picking a new torque converter

I have done this before on a buddies car. They put a 318 in place of a 360 and it vibrated like hell. I looked and saw that big balance weight on the TQ. No more problem after the weight was gone. It you have a small grinder try to grinding on the weld spots then a chisel should break it off.

    New rear gears

That's one heck of a driveshaft! Is that aluminum? I agree to get thus bolts out of the tunnel or flip them over so the bolt head is on the bottom.

    727 rebuild options

Trans-go offers kits from the TF-SC to a full manual option TF-3. So no you can't just use any level of kit in the VB and expect perfect results. After the TF-1 level I start adding springs in the front clutch so you don't get a 2-3 bind.

    727 rebuild options

Yes the TFSC kit is mild and would be one a novice could install without internal transmission upgrades above stock components.

    727 rebuild options

Just keep in mind some valve body rebuild kits affect clutch and band timing and require extra springs in the clutch to make the clutch disengage before the band applies. Make sure you know what you are doing or you will have binding of the clutch and band. You can’t just rework a valve body...

    727 rebuild options

I do 904's and 727's on the side. I always talk with the guy about upgrades I recommend and then ask them what their expectations are then make additional recommendation from there. I have a few upgrades I do just in general that don't cost any extra. If a guy wants upgraded clutches and steels...

    8 3/4 Diff Dilemma

Why do you say he should replace with green bearings? I like the original taper bearings as I can clean and repack them. As long as they are adjusted properly they last forever. The only time i switched to green bearing are on drag cars with a spool as the spool will not allow you to adjust the...

    2X4 Intake Carb Question

They had Carter AFB's. I think they were originally set up on processive linkage and only the primary carb had a choke setup. I had one of these manifolds once and tried to run two Eddie's on it and they bolted up but the butterflies hit the manifold so I had to run a spacer.

    8 3/4 Diff Dilemma

I never knew this. Thanks for the info. That's why I read almost every post on this site, always learning new things. I have set up many rear gears and always use the factory specs so the next time I will check the gear cut.

    8 3/4 Diff Dilemma

If this was my car I would start by calling Dr. Diff and see if that type of locker is known to make noise when cornering. If not I would put jack stands under the rear axle. Put the car in park and try rotating one rear tire and see what it feels/sounds like. I don't know how the locker you...

I need to replace my 904

Basic disassembly and assembly of 904 and 727 is the same and yes it is pretty straight forward. If you were only disassembling, replacing clutches and seals and reassemble it would only take a couple hours. If you want to clean and inspect everything, check all the ware components for proper...
