    I have changed the heater core without removing the whole box but I do not recommend doing it that way unless you're a true dyed-in-the-wool masochist.

    Most likely the heater core - but there is another possibility albeit much less likely as there are hoses/clamps and o-rings used on several connections inside the heater box from the factory.

    I converted my car many years ago and I can tell you that it's not an easy job. Especially if you only have a parking spot in an open lot and a small assortment of tools. It was great being young and dumb is about all I can say.

    Yeah, it could be as simple as replacing a hose. I've never been that lucky, though, these weren't the problem.

    That belt looks like it may occasionally be hitting the heater hose. May want to adjust the hose bracket next the alternator a wee bit. I've never had one cut through but I have had a few with some pretty deep grooves.

    Mine seems okay, converted about 15 years ago, then it all leaked out over about 4 years - since I wasn't driving it much I didn't worry about it. A couple years ago I had him recharge it and it seems to work fine so far.
