A little bit of adjusting with the column in Reverse and …. SUCCESS!! This pin feels way more secure than all the versions of the 3D printed versions I made. I think that metal center pin is the key.

But I was not going to take out the column, so I used my biggest Chanel lock pliers and it just barely fit…. Switch reinstalled:

    Reverse light switch.

The part came in this week. A rare rainy May day here so I went for it. The instructions call for removing the steering column because the metal pin needs to be tamped in (it is a tight fit).

Please help me ID this wire

With the way that wire is labeled, my guess is it is aftermarket. And being 10 gauge, my second guess is it was an attempt at the ammeter bypass. (Just guessing though). And when you say ammeter bypass, you can’t do it without tagging @cbarge

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

I am happy to report my car is back on the road! Took it out for about an hour this morning. Cruising volts hovered around 13.8. Thank you ALL for the help and guidance on this one. I learned a lot!

I looked into this when you suggested it originally too, but I think the column has to be out for that to work. And it has always been hard for me to see in the pictures I took, but the gauge of the metal where this pin pops in does not appear to be very thick? As in, how many threads can you...

Hi there. No update on this side, sorry. I will reach out to my friend who was doing all the leg work. I was the ‘idea man’ only.

That missing ground strap was my issue when I had the tank replaced. Hope it is an easy fix for you too.

    Ammeter bypass

It is also important to remember that while most of the fine executives at Chrysler in the day likely loved these cars, they still needed to prioritize profits. From everything I have learned, the wiring in or beloved cars is probably slightly undersized for the current it needs to carry. Using...

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

Got my wire supplies in today. Does it matter if I put the fusible link on the battery side of the run between the alternator and battery post? I mainly ask because if for some strange reason it goes out again, it is easier to replace the fusible link on that side of the run. Also, is there an...

Spark Plug Wire Heat Shield (‘Socks’)

My new wires were delivered today. I am inclined to swap them all out (one at a time) but wondering if it is better to just focus on the damaged one(s) and hang on to the others as spares? The replacements are the same make and model as the ones currently on the car.

These? ACCEL 9045C Extreme 9000 Spark Plug Wire Set https://a.co/d/dz83ugZ Most of those boots are 90s. My current set are mostly straight boots. Is there enough wire in yours to have the wire point down and clear the manifold?

Spark Plug Wire Heat Shield (‘Socks’)

My car has been through a rough couple of weeks. Radiator replaced, alternator replaced, now getting to maintenance items and see the heat from the exhaust manifold has destroyed my spark plug wire boot (driver side, closest to the driver). Any of you have luck with those heat shield socks...

Makes prefect sense! I am going to start calling you Professor @Big_John! I bet I blew that wire on the hot cruise. I had a pusher fan on almost that whole drive. (Well at least I thought it was on!)

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

To help further my education in this…. If I did fry a fusible link, would I still have continuity on that wire? I guess I always thought when a fusible link went, it would break the connect somewhere along the wire. I am not saying the link didn’t break, I just had continuity on the wires when...

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

I will now work on obtaining replacing the 12 gauge with a second 10 gauge, and doing some concealing of the wires, but this seems to be the fix I needed. I am beginning to think my volts may have been underpowered for some time. Thank you ALL for your help!

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

There are no dumb questions in life. Only dumb answers :) I went for a long drive, in the heat, and realized I had a big cooling issue because of lack of flow in the radiator. I got that all figured out, reinstalled, and went to fire it up. Battery wasn’t dead dead, but needed to use my jumper...

So I have been trying to replace what was there already assuming what was there was working fine. I am not beginning to realize what was there previously may have been undersized all along for the modifications I have in the car. My 440 is equipped with a Fitech EFI and MSD electro tic...
