1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Here's the latest: It's just about where I like it. There's a few things left I'd like to do, such as gears & a posi, an electric fan, and maybe a shift kit.

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Wow, has it really been 8 months since the last update? Well, yeah. Not much has happened, really. The only notable updates are the additions of a new AVS2 800 cfm carburetor, a pressure regulator, and I also rerouted the fuel lines to keep them farther away from the engine. Also, took...

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

I decided the old speakers had to go. One would crackle every now and again, and that just won't do. To rectify that, I did the right thing and bought the best $40 speakers that had 1 day shipping Amazon had available. Pictured below are photos of the speaker plate that I didn't include in the...

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Started a project a few evenings this week: piping in some tunes. I approached this upgrade on a budget. A Retrosound system would be ideal, but I feel the cost for one of those systems is not ideal for my needs. It all started with a pair of 3.5" speakers I've had kicking around for the past...

I was expecting something a little bit more creative. :steering: Oh well. I guess K-I-S-S is probably the way to go.

Thanks! Regarding the shutoff, what would be a better alternative?

UPDATE: The Dodge is running strong. Tons of power. Been putting some miles on it this week, even took it to a show today.

It's ALIVE! Sounds real strong. Need to break it in some more but initial break in went smoothly, other than a slight coolant leak from a heater hose. Now to tune the carb and to make sure the timing is dialed in just right.

Trunk bezels (I think that's what they call them?) added. Before: After: Picked these up with the badges I added. I thought I was content with the appearance of the car before, but these bezels really complete the look of the car, IMO. Same as the badges, I took the time to paint and...

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

The engine is in. BUT..... What has become a theme with this build, another setback. The stock flexplate originally on the 440 doesn't match the *not* stock torque converter. That got sold with the 400 originally in the car. :BangHead: :BangHead::BangHead: A replacement has been ordered...

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

The time has finally come. Waited the better part of six weeks for custom length pushrods. But, progress begins again. More to follow soon.

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

I didn't have it balanced. Only deglazed, new seals and new bearings. From all the info I gathered, this engine isn't externally balanced due to the lighter cast pistons. My engine didn't use a 6 pack balancer. This appears to be consistent with the info I gathered here: Harmonic Dampers 440...

Dupli-Color Chrysler Green. Doesn't look anything like the early turquoise but I don't care. I actually like it better, as it turns out.

I still have it. I planned on using a new balancer. Good thing I don't throw anything away.

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Some progress. Not much, but some. I've just been waiting on parts, getting things ready for the engine. Cleaned and painted the engine bay, as well as replaced some of the old wiring. Before: After: Also, started assembling and painting the engine. More to come. Hope to have the...

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

The day has arrived. Just picked up my fresh 440 from the machine shop! And now, the assembly begins. Well, the checking, double, triple checking and cleaning. Then assembly.

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Took a bit of time to match my exhaust ports with the manifold ports on the heads. Very little. While I was at it, I gasket matched one side of my intake manifold. I am by no means a porting expert, but they turned out pretty good. Contemplating purchasing a longer carbide cutter to get in...

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Here's the latest parts haul. It's not much, but it's progress. The top pic is of two 741 carriers. Thinking of making two into one. One has a Sure Grip, the other has 3.23 gears. Not sure if I should build up one of these 741s, or one of my two 742s? I also have a 3.23 ring & pinion that...

1966 Polara 880: The Build So Far, or "Bring Money".

Took a look at the heads today. My worst fears were confirmed: It's not apparent by the pic, but I have some bent valves. So far, no other damage is visible, fortunately. At least I have a few spare heads with decent valves kicking around, if needed. Unfortunately, though, I'll likely need to...
