MM, sounds like a weak link in the power draw, typically such a click happens when one of the battery terminals isn't done up tight. So I would be checking tightness of all connections not only at the battery but the starter and solenoid too. Then also check the connections for wear and damage.

MM being that your column is tilt /tele, I believe these types of columns were sourced from GM and as such also have GM internals? Someone else may be able to jump in here and confirm this.

The Rick ErhenBerg stuff is done to OEM quality and is not a problem at all. I have bought this kit a number of times and it is good. If the coil is true OEM it shouldn't be a problem either. I cant comment on the plug wires, I dont know the brand.

This comment reminds me of the tin plate friction cars I got for Christmas, taking the wheels off to check the oil was mandatory at five years old.

Check the positive side of the coil with the ignition on and see what voltage you have, I am having basically the same problems with mine and I found I only had 6 volts, I'm guessing it's something in the wiring harness itself or as already mentioned a ground problem.

Sorry just saw your post, my radio is an AM/FM unit, there is a small lever to the right of the three wheels that changes it between AM/FM.
