what is best oil to use on 1978 Chrysler with 400 engine?

I used to use VR-1, it's got all the zinc you need (better off not adding any additives to it). But, being a racing oil, it's not designed to be left in your car for extended periods of time and does not have the ideal amount of detergents and corrosion protection for engines that are driven...

what is best oil to use on 1978 Chrysler with 400 engine?

I've done a bit of research and I'd say that the best oil for any of these engines with flat tappet cams is Amsoil classic and hot rod oil. (Amsoil Z-rod).

Valve cover smoke after switching to synthetic oil

Probably your valve cover gaskets are leaking oil on to the manifolds.

    Should I adjust trans

It sounds like maybe the shift pressure might need adjusting in addition to what was suggested above? Just a thought.

    1964 Chrysler Imperial PS pulley

I'd be careful heating this since it's attached to the pump. Maybe try soaking it with penetrating oil for a few days. That dent could probably be straightened out with vice grips to the point where it would work, but it wouldn't look good. I don't know for certain but since there's a groove...

Timing adjustment, carb adjustment, uneven compression. Just a few thoughts.

    modern trannys

My thoughts: modern trannies are completely computer controlled. You'd have to install some kind of computer controls in your c-body. Seems to me it would be a lot of effort and expense. I've heard there are overdrive kits that can be fitted to a c-body, but I've never seen or used one. I...

Mpg drops on 87 Fifth Avenue

Here's an interesting note about fuel gauges: My Nissan 300ZXs had 2 fuel gauges. On the car with analog instruments there was a smaller one inside the bigger one that registered full until the big one dropped below 1/4, then it started going down to give you a more accurate reading. The one...

Mpg drops on 87 Fifth Avenue

I think most cars the fuel gauge drops faster the lower it gets. I've never heard of the fuel mileage changing between a full and half-empty tank, but most people probably just take an average for the whole tank of gas. If this car is averaging about 17 or 18 mpg for the whole tank I'd say...

Another silly fuel pump replace question

Is it a big block? Get some rest. I replaced mine and I'd never done it before and it was a piece of cake.

Question on cleaning a gas tank

We used to have a good radiator shop in the town where I live. One day, I went there to talk to the mechanic about something and he was welding on a gas tank. It was wobbling around on him so I steadied it with my foot. He said most people wouldn't even stand there while he was doing that. I...

    Sure-Grip lube

What does the additive actually do? I just bought some limited-slip gear lube from NAPA that says it's ready to use right out of the bottle--no additive needed. Can this also be used in a non-Sure-Grip diff?

What type of ATF to use in a standard?

OK, here's MY question (which I also just posted in a new thread because I didn't think to look here): What if you don't know what's in it and you want to top it off? Is it OK to mix ATF and gear lube?

What to use in a 1968 4-spd transmission

I have a service manual for a 1968 Chrysler and it says to use the Dexron ATF in the 3-spd manual transmission. I have a 4-spd manual in my '68 300 (not original to the car). I want to top it off, but I don't know what's already in it. If it's filled with ATF would topping it off with 85w90...

1977 Mopar V-8: Did ALL 1977's have LEAN BURN, or just the ones with 4bbl carbs?

Interesting. We had a 76 Newport with a 360 2-bbl., did not have lean burn. That was a good car except for rust.

1977 Mopar V-8: Did ALL 1977's have LEAN BURN, or just the ones with 4bbl carbs?

My 1977 Plymouth Volare w/318 didn't have the lean burn, but my 1978 Volare w/318 DID have it.

    Transmission Fluid

Completely irrelevant, maybe, but putting only a quart or so of Type F in my 1990 Chevy Celebrity caused the transmission to bang badly when shifting into drive or reverse.
