My new to me 1971 Paisley Imperial

@nitoh: Congratulations on this beautiful acquisition! There was a writeup on this vinyl roof in the Collectible Automobile magazine article on Fuselage Imperials. The roof material was specifically developed to look like an old Italian leather that has a very subtle print. All looked fine but...

    1969 Imperial progress thread

If you still have the map light, that should also come on automatically when you open a door. Nevertheless, the entire light show is pretty dim.

These were not very fancy. Just a socket and a bracket and a naked bulb. But you usually don't see them as they are mounted pretty much below and somewhat behind the dashboard. >>>> Click

    1969 Imperial progress thread

You might consider installing two under dash courtesy lights, one on each side (like the 71 Furys with light package had) as this seems to be less trouble than finding and installing a good dome light and brace. Then again, the dome light brace itself is probably identical through most body...

Can 73 Imperial Spindles Be Used For 68 Plymouth Fury Disc Brake Upgrade

Yes, 1969 Budd brake calipers cannot be found. Rotors are rare due to the 5×5 bolt circle. However, with special bearings, other rotors might fit -- I just doubt this was ever tried, as I don't see a reason to do so.

Can 73 Imperial Spindles Be Used For 68 Plymouth Fury Disc Brake Upgrade

Sure the Imperial is a C-Body. Nevertheless, the Imperial front axle is unique (it's a carry-over from the 1967-1968 models). So the spindles won't fit other 1969-1973 C-bodies. Below left: Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth; Below right: Imperial

72/73 Imperial owners question about lights.

Yes, only the top bulbs flash. I can only assume this was due to the srandard thermal flashers not being able to handle the additional load (which would have resulted in a oretty hectic flashing). A stronger unit would probably have been available (like for emergency flashers) but maybe cost more?

    How stuff works. Imperial 1969-1973

That is a transcript of the article on fuselage Imperials in the April 2006 issue of Collectible Automobile. Recommended Reading! Unfrortunately Howstuffworks.com doesn't have the companion articles on the 1969 to 1973 Plymouth Fury, Dodge Polara/Monaco or Chryser found in various other issues...

Converting to a Lemons 24 Emperial

How many of the wheels are chrome style road wheels like the front passenger side wheel? Or would you want to keep all wheels?

1969 Imperial LeBaron 2 door hardtop

1969 and 1970 Imperial four-door hardtops (and 1969 sedans) came with manual vent windows (unless power vent windows were specified) and those had cranks. So perhaps the cranks left the impression of the car having manual windows.

    1969 Imperial progress thread

Simply fascinating! I'd be too afraid to completely disassemble such a complex mechanism and motor and not be able to put everything back together. Once again, I am in awe by Julian's go-at-it attitude.

    Battery Tray

Thank you Julian, that's valuable information, I didn't know that! Not wanting to be anal about things, but I think the washer nut on the J-bolts of the hold-down kit on the right are original to an Imperial application while wing nuts are supplied with the aftermarket battery hold down kit.

I do not think that altering the original appearance of the Imperial dashboard is a worthy goal. Hiding aftermarket controls is what I would do, too.

True for 1969, but in 1970 and 1971 you could also order a manual A/C.

Julian is a non-smoker, so he sure won't miss not being able to use the ashtray to store old cigarette butts in.

    1969 Imperial Guru question.

While leather trim in 4-door hardtops reqiured a mere $ 137.65 surcharge, the leather bucket seats in the 2-door hardtop only came as power seats. So in total, leather trim in an Imperial coupe added $ 578.70 to the tab. Which is, as CEJ7034 rightfully noted, almost 10 % of the 2-door hardtop's...

    Hood difference 72 / 73 LeBaron

I don't think the slots were designed with engine air intake or engine cooling in mind. I assume they were merely made for HVAC air intake.

    Hood difference 72 / 73 LeBaron

Chrysler did away with the slots across all C-bodies in 1973. So you won't find any on a 1973 Chrysler or 1973 Polara/Monaco or 1973 Fury either. I guess it was found that the pressure resulting from the air being compressed by the windshield of the moving car was enough to push air into the...

My Imperial le baron coupe 1971 restored and just sold

The 1972 Imperials received a somewhat new skin, along with a general mild redesign of the C-body fuselage exterior styling across all makes. An even longer hood, more rounded body sides, a new roofline in the rear with differently styled C-pillars and rear window opening, plus the other styling...
