My 76 NYB has a VERY hot fan switch when set at any speed higher than low. Any idea what the issue is and how to fix it?

Is there a way to install intermittent wipers on a non-intermittent wiper 76 New Yorker? I'm tired of flipping the switch back and forth. If possible is it a simple job?

76 NYB - Thought my fan speed switch was bad because the fan would occasionally change speeds with the switch but would get REALLY HOT. I replaced the switch and the fan works in all speeds now, BUT, still gets REALLY HOT!!! So hot it hurts to touch. Afraid of burning wires, is there something...
