1968 300 tail light panel - silver argent?

The earlier 68 300's that had the silver painted tail light panel -- was that painted with the silver argent? The one I'm working on was repainted by someone with just a run of the silver paint and I'd like to get it more like original.

Where and how to buy paint

I'm getting closer to being ready to paint. I had been buying my products--filler, primer, etc. at the local auto paint shop and was counting on their knowledge and assistance to help me get what I needed. However, when I went to their store a few days ago it was closed up :( When I look...

1968 Chrysler, removing the stainless trim around taillights

I was able to remove the upper trim pieces by sliding them off. But the shape of the outer curves prevents me from doing the same with the lower pieces. I'm thinking for the lower I'll need to pry where the clips are but I'm afraid I'm going to bend the trim and/or ruin the clips doing so...

1968 Chryslers - why is there a bulge in fenders above rear wheel opening?

As I've been doing bodywork on the 68 300 convertible rear fenders, I have detected that there is a slight outward bulge in the sheet metal above the wheel openings. We have 4 68's Chryslers: (2) 2-door 300's, a 2-door Newport, and a 4-door New Yorker, so I checked them all. Each one had some...

    What I've been up to...

I know I had some other posts about restoring a 68 New Yorker and also a 68 Newport project...which most people probably forgot about by now (though I haven't). But the reason I haven't made any progress on them in a while is because I've been working on our 68 300 convertable. Well actually...

    Fender extension drain holes?

One of my current projects, which started out as repairing some rust in the trunk of our 68 300 convertible, mission creeped into also replacing much of the sheet metal in the trunk extensions, both inner and outer sections. I have been wondering if I should add some kind of drain holes or...

What are the rubber plugs in the floor pans for?

I've never exactly been sure why they're there on any car. On my 68, it looks like maybe the larger one up front is for access to a bolt to the stub frame but I can't see any reason for the multitude of smaller ones. I'm going to have to replace some metal in the floor pan of our 68...

    Fixing hood rattle

The outer and inner parts of our hoods are bonded together with some kind of glue/epoxy/cement that seems to invariably break loose. The result is a hood that vibrates and rattles, most noticeably when closing it. Instead of a nice solid thunk, you get unpleasant noises. Does anyone know of a...

    Convert sedan doors to hardtop?

Is this a feasible job? My 68 New Yorker hardtop doors are rusty and I have access to 68 Newport sedan doors that are decent. Basically speaking, would there be more to it than just removing the window frames and swapping hardware with the hardtop doors? Or would that be way harder than just...

Getting the best look from a subpar paint job

The paint quality on our car is not that great. It was obviously repainted at some point in it's past and also had some substandard body work done in some spots. Future plans are to get it redone at a quality shop, but in the meantime, I'd like to get it looking as good as I can. I'm not...
