General Information
Picked this very clean 1962 Newport up about 2hrs from home. It has a 361bb with the Tflite push button trans. Dealer installed A/C. Shows just over 30,000 miles, I believe to be original based on condition of the car. Very little rust to fix, the car has been restored once, guessing in the 70s by the interior and paint choice. Previous owner said it would make the drive back no problem. Even had her on a bit of Old Route66 on the way home. Drove nice and was surprised by the power the big boat has. Only thing that broke on the way home was the speedo cable about 15miles from the house.
One of the only cars I have bought that all the wiring is original and untouched. Makes it nice to work on when there isn't a rats nest of cobbled wires everywhere.
Have already installed a PerTronix I, done plugs and wires. Have an efi and Weiand intake setting on the shelf waiting to go on it. Planning on this being the wifes daily driver and get her out of minivans for good. Since I own a custom rod shop, the body will get worked over with some sort of custom paint job. New tires and wheels are on the list as well as some custom interior(a buddy owes me one for painting his truck)!
My kids love riding in it and ask to take it everywhere. Their eyes get big, I hear a lot of giggles(could be on lookers) when I light the tires up for them and that makes me smile!
Will keep updates on the progress as the projects moves forwadd. Any suggestions or problems you may know of with these old Newports let me know, thanks.
