Finally Got One

General Information

A huge thank you to member 68sportfurys for parting with his baby that he's had for the last 10 years back on 11/14. When he responded to my original message here he mentioned he had TWO available - one with a 383 and front discs and one with a 318 and drums. Both looked fantastic but I decided on the 318 since that was the one he knew best and since I needed something turnkey because I'm a novice and more of a uh.. "maintainer" than a "take apart and rebuild" kind of guy. This will allow me to tinker and learn over the next 15 years or so before retirement when I can devote all my time. :) It's obvious he was meticulous in his care and judging from his other garage projects has "forgotten more than I'll ever know".

My wife (who authorized the purchase) really wanted it to be a family thing so we rented a car down and drove her 4.5 hours back here to MI and she did not disappoint. I will say it's a bit terrifying to cruise an unknown, 53yo car with drum brakes and no solid roof structure for 4+ hours with your wife and son on busy highways. Neither of my brothers thought I'd make it back without using at least something in the emergency kit I had prepared but it was smooth sailing. And even my oldest brother who can find the negative in any automobile said "yeah that's a nice car".

My only first world problem now is that I can't see it when I let the dog out through the garage since it's covered up for the winter. :)

Congratulations! That looks like a very clean, well maintained car. I'm with you on the "maintainer" front!
 
Congratulations! You picked a really nice 68. I think you'll find it's pretty reliable... they were good cars without many demons. 318 is bulletproof and it looks like it was rebuilt. You car looks to have originally been frost green metallic - F1 code. Post a pic of your fender tag.
 
Thanks all! I haven't been able to decode the fender tag completely, about halfway through I seem to lose it on the lists I see. I'll post the tag if anyone can figure it out..

Awesome, thank you! Yeah I didn't get anywhere near close to all that.
 
I used to have 1 but I got rid of it due to some mechanical and electrical problems with the car. I used the super unleaded in the car . Mine had a 383 and it ran a lot smoother with the amoco clear premium.
