Deanos Monaco

This is our Monaco as it looks now

General Information

!968 Monaco made in Canada imported to UK in 2019.
Originally a 318 Car but now has a 383 with two barrel.
Needs work!

We have been wrencing a bit on the Monaco and finding plenty of issues on the way.

First thing which caught our attention was the rusted out stub

All the suspension and steering has been removed and just busy sorting out all the paper thin box sections ready to fabricate some repairs. Even the torsion bar brackets have rust holes in them.

Removing the cracked windshield and all the trim (Carefully) revealed that the vinyl roof had been stapled onto the roof! Not Seen that before.

And the inevitable rust hole of course right in the middle top of the frame just behind the seal tape

We also managed to get the rear window out without breaking it - and found yet more stapled vinyl roof remnants and quite a few rust holes

Very cool to have another Canadian car on here, I like it. Is the interior White or Parchment in color? I might have some interior panels if you would like them, they are the same as a Fury III and Sport Fury.

I think they may have been parchment - it's a sort of two tone cream/ gold - the interior is in very poor condition though so a bit difficult to tell I'll post some pictures and you can see what I mean. The door cards are shot really and were not sure what to do with them - if we change the body colour then we most probably will need to change the interior colour - it's very early days yet! I will keep your kind offer in mind though - how much would you want for them? Don't forget we are in UK!
 
Great body style.. one of my Fav’s.. that and the Polara. What are your plans?
Wasn't sure when I first saw the picture - I had a vision of what we might do with it - repainted in a dark colour possibly black - some chrome or alloy 15" rostyles with cooper tires. when we went to look at it its an epic car especially from the rear with those full width lights but it will need a complete new interior, suspension,brakes an some bits of body repair, decent tubular headers and exhaust system. We are currently mulling over what colour to paint it. Watch this space!
 
Long time since i put an update on here. The Stub is still in the same state as it was in last pictures - actually I have been working in on it a bit but haven't made my mind up about the best way to sort it. Replacement would be easier but not many C bodies in scrap yards over here. Nt many scrap yards for that matter all gone to be replaced by housing (well small overpriced rabbit hutches actually).

Did have a bit of a detour and started on the motor - stock 383. Machine shops also rare around here - wanted a 440 source stroker - kit for it but for various reasons which i have posted elsewhere i was advised to go for a forged eagle crank

- this did not fit at all as you can see the crank webs sat on the cylinber base and th main journals were about half an inch above where they should be - this was replaced by a scat forged crank

Which can be seen in all its glory - but which also did not fit -

when the forged rods and pistons were fitted - the fancy ARP rod bolts fouled the bottom of the cylinders - the crank also did not rotate when a trial fit in the mains was tried - all ok until the fifth cap was bolted in (not even torqued) Then locked solid sorted that out found to be the radius on the crank journal fouling the rear seal mount - original cranks are relieved or undercut at this point - seen as a weakness in modern cranks!

Forged pistons Icon and scat rods and block all gone back to be clearanced - was thinking of getting the die grinder out myself but thought better of - especially since the supplier volunteered to rectify.
So the the Monaco is progressing sort of but is a long way from getting back on the road - It will be around 438 CID when complete - but it s designed to be a torque monster not a drag queen.
