Hello here is a picture of my 1968 Plymouth sport fury l code 440 super commando It is in the process of being completely restored. It is a car I have wanted since I was a little boy

General Information

Hello this is my 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury L code convertible. I purchased the car approx. 2 years ago. It was in good shape but was a little tired. I had the motor and tranny rebuilt. I had the underneath scraped down and any rust which luckily was minimal fixed. I also put a new legendary interior in it and had dash pad redone. The quarter panels were rusted and patched pretty bad. I was fortunate enough to find a pair of unrusted quarters on E bay which I had welded in. The car is now in the shop it was tacken down and should be painted the correct green within the next month or so. I had the chrome polished out and replaced all the emblems with nos I also had new door panels redone. For the time it has taken I could of probably made them myself and I don't know where or how to begin. If they come out good then it was worth the wait. I appreciate all the advise I have gotten from the site. I also have two 1969 Plymouth sport furys one a convertible one a hardtop unfortunately I think I am going to have to face the reality that I am in over my head due to some health conditions. but I keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for all your help it has been invaluable and I hope I can do the same

Beautiful looking car. Back in 1969 I owned a near identical 68 except mine was a deep maroon or burgundy, not sure what it was called. I've always liked that shade of red, but after looking at yours in green I'm really liking it! Well done and enjoy your ride!

Thank you very much for the compliment of my car. I am familiar with the burgundy color you had that was a sharp color. Must of been great having it when new. Back in 1970 my dad bought a 1969 scorch red black vinyl top sport fury. I was only 4 then but I remember it well. He had it till 78 when he gave it 2 my brother. Unfortunately you know how that goes Thanks Again

Wow that Mopar is as cool as they come, I actually have a couple of Dodge hubcap equivalents. Never really loved this body style but had a 67 300 and just loved it. I hated the 67 -8 Monaco Polara look but loved the Plymouth Chryslers. Unfortunetly passed up on a triple black 67 300 4-speed with factory I think 3:91 gears and a posted quarter timeslip of 14 flat @ 100 mph stone stock. Original owner car, for some reason Chrysler didn't want to have anyone seen rowing a new proscess 4 gear in a ragtop anymore after 1966. Pontiac sure the hell did. My friend had a 4-gear 440 super commando like yours and said he had it to 140. White totally unassuming car that paled next to his 440 sixpack 70 challenger R/T but still cool as hell.

Thank You very much for your compliments. That 67 300 must of been something else. It drives me crazy when I think of some of the cars I passed on. I guess at the time I was young and always thought they would be around

That looks great love to see more pictures for sure. looks like mine did when I bought it 35 years ago in high school but mine was just 383 super commando with 727 auto.

I'd like to use your car for inspiration to get mine back on track - I have a nearly-identical car - 440HP/727, GG1 exterior, green interior, and green convertible top according to what I could decode. Car is PS, PDB, power buckets & windows, cruise control, and 3.23SG. No A/C and a Texas ordered car. Until now, I was just about sure I had 1 of 1 440HP green convertibles, but 1 of 2 is still pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

That sounds great with all those options. My car has column auto,buckets with buddy seat, manual brakes, windows, 3.23,non a/c. am/fm. There was supposedly there was only 23 convertibles made with the 440 super commando. I am sure yours with those options makes it really rare. The ones that I have seen on the computer 3 were green and 1 was blue with a 4 speed. My car is almost done it is in the body shop almost ready for paint. Thanks for replying good luck with yours.
