This is a true story about 12 old cars that got crushed because of a lazy friend.
About 15 years ago the guy I was paling around with a lot told me about a guy he knew way across town who had passed away. He had a farm & also had a small one car at a time body shop behind his house. So this guy had acquired a small junk yard over the years. Had a lot of old Chrysler products. My friend had a 77 New Yorker he bought new & had parked it in the back yard 10 years earlier & it was rough. Well he wanted to restore it & this guy happen to have a decent 77 NY in his junk yard. It actually looked better than my friends car. So we hooked up a trailer & drove over to get the 77. When we got their the guys wife gave us permission to walk around & look at the cars. She said EVERYTHING was for sale. She wanted to clean the place up. So as we waked through I counted 12 cars out of about 30-35 that I was interested in. A 64 Buick Skylark 2 door in primer, but looked quite good. Factory Bucket seats & floor shift with console. V8 engine. Also a 63 New Yorker in Flamingo. This was a 4 door hardtop IIRC. It had a lot of chrome, but a wide strip that ran across the roof like a targa band. 413 engine. Body & interior in very good shape. Also a 69 Newport 2 door hardtop 383 and also in pretty good condition. I can't remember the rest of the cars, but they where mostly in pretty good shape. So we loaded the 77 & he went to pay her. He told her we where interested in 12 other cars & what price. She didn't even ask us which cars. She just said $50 bucks each if you can get them out with in a month. Well I almost passed out. WHAT A OUTSTANDING DEAL. So he bought the 77 & we loaded it up & all the way home I could tell he wasn't interested in any of the other cars. He just didn't seem to care. And I later found out he didn't. You see he had known about these cars for some time & I had a one ton Ford Rollback that I had just sold. So I had no truck or trailer at that time. After a month of begging him to go back & start getting those cars it became obvious he was too lazy to mess with them. It was summer time & hot & grass & brush had grown up around the cars. So I kinda got mad at him for not telling me about these cars back when I had the Rollback truck. So another month went by & I finally got him to give me the ladies phone #. This guy is supposed to be my friend & running around buddy. He never was a fan of parting out cars or going to swap meets or the Internet. Just strange. And he clearly didn't want me to get any of those cars because he didn't want me to sell & profit from them. So anyway I called the lady & she tore into me. I THOUGHT YOU WHERE GOING TO COME GET THOSE CARS!!! I gave you a great price. She said she had to pay someone to haul them off & she was mad. Apparently a developer had approached her about buying the land & she was trying to clean it up. So the cars went to the crusher & where gone. I told my friend what the widow had said & how angry she was. It ended up hurting our relationship. I rarely even talk to him anymore. He screwed me & the widow. And 12 beautifull old cars went to China. I told my friend in a bit of a tone. I sure hope your happy. You got your car & nobody else got anything. The pics posted are not the actual cars just for reference. My friend , well he still rides around the country roads looking for old cars. Stops & tell's them he'll be back & never comes back. I learned he's more interested in the chase than the catch.

Hmm
I know somebody exactly like that guy. Haven't talked to him in years because of the same crap.
Ironically it was a 77 NYB that it started with.

I can see him not being interested... but to not pass on the info or block the transaction is plain wrong for any "car guy".

Yep & to make things worse. Both his 77 NY & the one he bought from the widow where sent to the crusher about 5 years ago. He called me & told me he was going to crush them & I offered him $300 ea. A week later he called back & said the scrap guy gave him $500 ea. 2 more C bodies with lots of parts gone. I was furyious at him again.

Its not like the jagoff didn't know you draw income from this... at minimum he could have given you a second bid. I would have a difficult time maintaining the word "friend".

Well I've know him so long & he kinda has some positives too. Several years ago the trans in "The BEAST" died at the track (I was ahead too) I pulled it out myself. The trans guy ( a friend) dropped it off when he was done. So the very next night after work my buddy was lying under the car helping me get it back in so I could race that weekend. It was hot & dirty & he was there for me that time. It sure does help to have someone on the other side helping with the Jack & sticking bolts in & sequence tighting everything. So I tolarate him other days. I got pretty mad at him over those cars & yet he still calls & comes over.
